That sucks.
Is it just the site title that they have an issue with, or is the content under scrutiny too?

A matter of domain name, apparently:

Quote:
Atari are demanding Davie begin arrangements to handover atari2600.org to them as the domain name contains the Atari brand ("Atari"), in its entirety, in the domain name.

If they want the domain name so badly, they should have to pay a fair price for it. Handing it over for nothing is hardly fair. Screw you Atari!

Damm right surley thers is some legal case law that says you have had the domain running for 11 years without them doing anything about it.

Wouldn't it be the same as brand names if they are not protected. Like hoover falling into common usage for vacum cleaner etc.

Sites like this one are I think what kept the Atari 8/16 bits alive but also represent the true meaning of Atari powerful brand. It's a pity that those managers try to kill its community.

It's worth remembering that the people who now own the Atari name have absolutely nothing at all to do with the guys who built the Atari computers or coin-ops. They bought the trademarks just so that they could take advantage of the goodwill that they generate from longtime gamers.

Way to piss off your customers, New Atari!

This reminds of other companies doing the same but I can't remember their names at the moment... I think the names have to do with military hierarchies and friends but in this very moment I just can't recall them ... <g>
