Question Emulating Atari 800 on Amiga: ACE ROM problems

After experiencing many crashes and extreme slowness with the Atari800 emulator I was excited to find that there's another Atari 800 emulator for the Amiga which is supposed to be faster although less accurate than Atari800. (similar to A64 vs. Magic64)

See here - Atari Console Emulator review:
http://simon.mooli.org.uk/AF/9.html

Unfortunately, ATR format files don't seem to work with it. So far, the only "cartridge file" that works is ATARIBAS.ROM. The review though lists several games that work with it. Does anybody know where to find Atari games in ROM or disk format (not ATR) or know how to convert ATR for use with the ACE emulator?

This one is a rather good emulator, at least concerning its speed! It will run a reasonable number of demos/games, but do not expect miracles! It supports .XFD diskimages, try converting them with ATR2XFD, little utility for DOS! Get it here: http://members.home.nl/stack/atr2xfd.zip Happy converting

I don't have a PC, so I had to run PC-Task to use ATR2XFD. I don't get any errors when converting, but none of the XFD files work in the ACE emulator. I just get the error message "Project File Error #2 Section Addr = $0 (0 bytes long)". Any ideas?

Perhaps it depends on the size and the type of the disks! I'm not quite sure, but I managed to use .XFD images, also converted with my PCTask (guess what? - I don't have PC, either, hehe!). This emulator seems to have A LOT of bugs doing such tasks, but once a program runs, it really runs FAST, compared to other emulators! Unfortunately, the devolopment of this product has stopped long ago AFAIR, so no further releases will be available! Sad thing, this was a quite promising proggy!

I already figured it out. Inside the emulator, I formatted a blank "disk", then on Amiga I binary edited it and inserted the XFD. It seems the ACE emulator is very picky about file sizes. Disk files MUST be 92160 bytes and cartridges must be 16384 or 8192 bytes.

I was running Montezuma's Revenge (both versions) and it runs much faster and better than emulating the C64 versions! Awesome! Thanks Commie!

Joe Fenton (the author) has been kind enough to put the program and source on his webpage:
http://www.geocities.com/jlfenton65/computer.html

I think I'll play around with it a bit.

Yep, I have seen the page before, but I have no idea on source compiling! If you could do something with this, it would be a great contribution to all Amiga community

Bump! Just wanted to state that ACE runs great on my Vampire 2 powered Amigas! Runs a good selection of games full speed. But a lot don't run right. What I also found is that it's more compatible than running it on a 040+ based Amiga! Example: Zaxxon. Runs perfect on Vampire, has graphic glitches on 040+ based Amiga!
