California Games on A600? Help!
I've tried every version/crack/whatever of this game available on PlanetEmu and none of them work with either of my two A600s
Is this because I need to downgrade my KickStart? My towerised 600 can switch between 3.1 & 2.05, but that's the oldest I can go and I've sold my A500s, so no testing is possible. The almost-standard "keyboard" 600 is just running a stocko 2.05 ROM. a: Do I need ReloKick? b: Where do I get Relokick? c: If nothing above helps, will a REAL 1.3 ROM help? If so I have a spare 2.05 ROM I'm willing to trade Please help me...my son keeps asking me....and I'm sick of constantly having to physically switch between the C-64 & A600...too many plugs, too much mucking around...plus Amiga load times are better and it causes wear to the connectors on both machines PZ. |

Do you have extra memory? Game probably needs fastmem. Had it
working on my A1200 from disk. Have you tried the Early Startup menu? (Hold down both mouse keys when booting) Choose nocaches & OCS chipset, then select boot. Now I use WHDLoad to run it off HD. This is your best option. |

Yep, I've tried fiddling with the startup options, but to no avail.
I figure given it's release date that it shoudn't have memory issues running a 600, even without extra PZ. |

Got ReloKick now and it works great for other games that I couldn't run before, BUT...California Games still won't work!
I've tried every version on Planet Emu, but to no avail...am I going insane? Yes...lol PZ. |

The game requires fastmemory. With your chipmem only A600 it won't work. What you can do, try a program like TUDE that allows to fake fastram (Hello Andreas, probably a useless feature for you again? Sorry, couldn't resist!). So before loading California Games, try: "TUDE FAKEFAST=1", your A600 will reset and then load the game. Hope that helps.
Edit: You can download TUDE here: http://www.aminet.net/util/misc/TUDE.lha Last edited by StingRay; 28 January 2007 at 15:08. |

I had trouble emulating California Games, bit all I had to do was write-enable the disks. You have probably tried that, but thought it worth a mention just in case.

I have uploaded a version of California Games to the zone that should work on your A600. I added the "TUDE fakefast=1" to the startup-sequence and it works fine on my OS 2.0 1MB Chip only A500. Hope it works on your A600 too.

Hmm. Too bad. So what actually did happen? The game hanged? Or did it simply crash? If you can give me some more detailed information I might be able to help you more.

Ok, I had a look again and it seems the QTX version has some issues. So I took the World of Wonders version that used a different approach to crack the game (patching DoIO) and it seems to work nicely on my OS2.0 A500 except for the good old WOW intro. So I just removed that intro and uploaded that version to the zone. Hope this one will work on your A600 now.

Ah that's nice to hear. I wonder about Relokick though (yes, always curious I am ). On my 2.04 A500 it works fine, what happens on your A600 if you don't use Relokick? Anyway, hope your son is happy now.

Yeah, he doesn't know yet (was away last night), but he'll be stoked when I tell him this afternoon
I've got 2.05 & 3.1 ROMs (switchable) and on both if I don't use ReloKick it just hangs after the "hey dude, change the disk" prompt, or the screen is messed up with big fat lines of static across it when the game loads. Doesn't matter though...the main thing is that it works PZ. |

Wow, that sounds weird. Wonder why it doesn't happen on the A500. But as you said, the most important thing is that it works. Would be somehow even nicer if you could just boot the disk without any need to softkick 1.3 and stuff. I'll investigate a bit. I might send you something to test again. Meanwhile your son can already play so everything is fine.

Yeah, I'm looking into the possibility of a ReloKick HDD install...then no need to screw around with ReloKick FDD every time
Apparently the FDD I have should/may have an installer, I just have to find out (at work again, lol). PZ. |
