Comparison of Amigas, real, emulated, simulated and performance/pricing

Hi All. as requested i would like to start a thread that identifies all the options as Amiga users we have available to us. This is intended to identify to people just how diverse the Amiga community is. People can chime in to showcase their thoughts and setups

The thread is to allow users to let others know of their favourite HW/SW. I do not want this thread to descend into chaos so please be respectful of other users opinions and don't start a flame war.

My preference for an Amiga is an A500 or A600 that uses WHDload and floppy disks to play games, after all to me the Amiga is a Games machine. Having an accelerator helps with the game loading speeds and compatibility is definitely a must. Sometimes an emulated Amiga is too fast that causes issues and breaks games unless you fiddle with settings.

I will start the ball rolling showing a video of Pimiga and other OS. I have Pimiga running on my Pi4 Arcade image and also WHDload. (this is not my video btw).

For fun here is an image of sysinfo running via FSUAE on a Linux threadripper...

and below is a video of someone doing a comparison using their different Pi models using his A2000.

Nice Thread.
To bad the FS-UAE only uses one of the 16 cores of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper, and is also not multithreaded .
i wonder if there is a way to compile FS-UAE for using multicore / thread.

Anyway, my fav setup right now is the Pi400 with Pimiga, it is so nice and sort of like a keyboard wedge style AMIGA, well closest thing and $100 WIN WIN

Ok lets identify all of the options we have which have different performance profiles/cost ratios. Lets start here:

1) Classic ECS Amiga without RAM or Accelerator or HDD
2) GBA-1000 with 060 and GBA-PII+
3) A2000 with 060 accelerator and Zorro 2 RTG
4) AGA Amiga stock
5) A1200 BPPC+BVision
6) A4000 CSPPC+CVPPC
7) A3000-A4000 with Accelerator, Mediator + AAAA
8) A3000-A4000 with Accelerator, Prometheus + AAAA
9) A3000-A4000 with Accelerator, Mediator + AAAA, PCI-PPC
10) A3000-A4000 with Accelerator, Prometheus + AAAA, PCI-PPC
11) A3000-A4000 with Accelerator, Z3 RTG
12) A3000-A4000 with Accelerator, Mediator + CRAY-GA, PCI-PPC
13) A3000-A4000 with Accelerator, Prometheus + CRAY-GA, PCI-PPC
14-20) OS 4.1 Amigas
21-26) MorphOS Machines
27-31) FPGA Machines
32-36) WinUAE Machines
37-49) UAE Machines

For the range lists insert preferred solution here with the benchmark result that runs on all the above architectures that the thread creator approves of, whether that be MIPS, MFLOPS, Quake or Doom benchmark at the specified resolution.

I do not get ANYTHING close to that on WinUAE x64 on W7Pro x64 I7-4790K with DDR3-2400CL10 RAM.

I really wonder all those FLOPS are coming from?!

More FLOPS, more fun.

All those Flops are from my AMD Threadripper , under Linux and FS-UAE 3.0.5.
16 core 32 thread 4.1 GHz , 32 GB quad channel ram.
now I think FS-uae can only use one core , and no threads . but maybe it's the quad channel ram helping out here .

Nice list!

However, it does seem to miss out on AGA/big box Amiga's equipped with a 68030. It seems to me that this represents a fairly big chunk of the "real hardware" in use. It also misses out several other common configurations, mainly A1200+68060 and any Vampire based Amiga.

Isn't that under FPGA ?

I agree , add all the configurations possible.
goal I think is to have a good list of all the options , cost , and comparability .
for example system A costs 1000$ and speed is , and is available and new hardware. system B is $120 and is also need , performance is --, and ... so on , system C is a classic 1200 value , recap job $123, accelerator , flicker fixer etc etc performance is Z . sorry for the messy response I am on my cell phone

Ah, I missed that one
Anyway, the other ones I added are valid I think.

I use WinUAE 64 bit since 2002

Hardware used is notebook ACER ASPIRE (3 models used till now) with Windows system

I emulate standard A500 / A1200 model + A1200 with hard disk

So, nothing particular at all

Indeed i never had problems in using WinUAE for what i need to do

can add this newly posted thread to the list under real CPU, not sure on build price but i think the RAM is the most expensive at $8, Probably would cost about $25 to build. For the people releasing gerbers PCBWay have a PCB sharing project that authors can share their gerbers, BOMs etc so other people can purchase them. The author gets a small % so it can be beneficial.Costs and shipping are very good, cheap shipping option is a little slow but you should not get any customs charges. For example, my A600 cpu adapter boards i bought (10 of them) cost $17 CAd, including shipping

maybe a big spreadsheet on google or something like that,
we can add keyboard mouse, and monitor as base prices, like $10 keyboard, $10 mouse, $150 monitor, that covers an acer 22" that does 15 khz, CAD, for example
.

Will need to do this for FPGA based systems. some will need 2 monitors. just iimportant to capture TCO accurately.

Mine too. I got it as soon as it was available.
I got AmiKit installed on default RPi Linux distro and it works fine. Perfect setup.
I also installed vMac, Hatari, and Vice.

Best $100 you can spend on emulation device.

I also have real Amigas, most are in the closet, but A1200 sits on my desk.

Here is some interesting info for a1200 accelerator comparisons,.

guess we need to create some sort of list of all the add on boards and their prices, for each Amiga model, posting this for information not for arguments.'

Quote from the link: "I think the main thing that didn’t sit right with me was that the Vampire “replaced” the core Amiga system and in doing so lost the Spirit and nostalgia of using the machine."

Well, how much value is there in an opinion that is based on falsehood? The v1200 doesn't replace anything inside an A1200, it is an accelerator card with IDE and RTG, just like the Phase5 accelerators back in the day.

@ Kipper2k thanks for that video!!!

I want to see MiSTer guys run the same benchmarks. You should compile a list of "standard" benchmarks that we should test and compare to be fair.

That PINK P4 with Pink KB + Mouse is perfect for girls! Looks great actually as I have not seen anything like it where I am.

Did anyone try the NVIDIA Jetson with Amiga emulation?

Overall, I think you should take other factors on board, not just benchmarks & performance. Sure, they are a valid metric, but there are other things which matter - price, functions, nostalgia/"feel", looks, etc.

Simple synthetic benchmarks are very, very misleading on JIT emulators because they are essentially the absolute best case scenario for JIT. Real world performance is an order of magnitude slower. (SysInfo is even funnier because it overstates the performance of the 68040 due to fitting within cache, while understates the performance of the 68060 due to poor superscalar usage).
