Amiga Mandala, way before Eyetoy or Kinect

Amiga Mandala,
[ Show youtube player ]

For people who dont know way before Eyetoy or Kinect was a thing, Amiga had the tool!

investigated who were the people behind it and found one of the people behind the software was Vincent John Vincent, who went on to be one of the founders of Vivid Group (now Gesturetek - http://gesturetek.com/ ). Out of this discovery I found a number of video and even a ted talk on how he started the company in 1986 to create computer interactivity using only your body, way before Eyetoy and Kinect made this kind of thing main stream.

For Amiga fans there some great quotes in here about how he thought they need industry computer costing millions to get it done, and how museum had no issues with the Amiga system for 10+ years.

Other videos on Amiga Mandala

wonder how much of Amiga Mandala software has survived? I remember seeing it running at the Amiga 30th in the US so it must be there some where, but still very cool I think!

Very nice, I did not know that.
It would be nice to see how it all was integrated together. Amiga, Camera and software.

Most of the video links aren't working for me, but my local science museum had a system like this. I suspect it was the A1000-based one, running a volleyball-like game. They had a few other A1000s doing other things, too. They might even still be there! I'll have to investigate once the pandemic is over.

From their website:
"The GestureXtreme technology and patents have been licensed to 3rd parties and consumer products many times; to Sony for the EyeToy and Move systems; and to Microsoft for XBOX camera immersion like the Kinect system"
