Any ABasiC manuals?
Hi I got a copy of ABasiC (Amiga 1000, Metacomco) with some games and I would like to have a copy of the Manual or some tutorials about this tiny cool language. Somebody can give me a copy (in PDF, html or text)? But only if its not very trouble.
If somebody has the original ABasiC disk, I would like the other resources the disk has, like example programs or text files. I think this is not a problem for these small files... ABasiC disk came with Workbench 1.0 in the long, distant past. Thanks guys! |

i found a disk which has ABasiC. it has one example file (1erfass.bas).
look into the zone. is it the same basic which came with an a500, or was it something different? Edit: just in case, you missed that: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?p=384147#post384147 patch to work on Kickstart 2.0 and later : http://aminet.net/package/dev/basic/ABasiC_patch Last edited by hit; 07 November 2009 at 00:47. |

Not that one!
This is about AmigaBasic by Micro$oft, not ABasiC by Metacomco! Do not mix them up. The syntax is VERY different. I know it very well, because a German magazine publisher did a special edition especially for AmigaBasic, which also included some ABasiC programs. Since I had an A500, I was unable to see these programs in full glory because contrary to popular belief, the syntax *IS* very different from AmigaBasic! Neither can an ABasiC->AmigaBasic translation be called a mere 5-minute job. Last edited by andreas; 11 November 2009 at 17:38. |

AmigaBASIC is not by Commodore, it's by Microsoft. (believe it or not, but telling from its slowness and sluggishness, it's even logical :P)
No, no. Leandro wants ABasiC docs. ABasiC is neither by Commodore nor by Microsoft - it's by a third-party company: Metacomco. ABasiC was *exclusively* shipped with early Amiga 1000s and if I remember correctly, already dropped in 1986, probably because of licensing issues. Good.
But it was not very obvious you really did, otherwise you wouldn't have recommended a book about AmigaBASIC above which uses a completely different syntax without much doubt... Besides, this thread is almost 7 years old, but still a very interesting read. |

This is not a problem! Thanks!
Hi, really ABasiC is different from AmigaBASIC, ABasic is from Metacomco, which built the very first AmigaOS for Commodore, and AmigaBasic is from Microsoft. I downloaded from Aminet some very cool games for ABasiC, even a version of Klondike and Monopoly, they are very well done, not even looks that crappy old '80 Basic. Well its good, but not so much...
There is a little image editor made in ABasiC, a very cool project to program on it. http://aminet.net/dev/basic/BasicProgs.lha http://aminet.net/dev/basic/ABasiC_progs.lha http://aminet.net/dev/basic/ABasiC_patch.lha Its very nice to see this board so interested in collecting documentation for the Amiga. The friends (or enemies? ) of the Atari ST already have some very good documentation about their computer, but I have looking for Atari on the net and their community not allow its users to download the books (well, this is one reason to Atari emulation losing force every day). Thanks! Last edited by Leandro Jardim; 16 November 2009 at 21:52. Reason: little gramatical errors, now sounds better |

The site doesn't allow for direct links to files. You can find it on this page if you scroll about half way down:
