Using dithering with NewIcons

Afternoon all, I have a small question here, I was wondering how can I activate dithering in NewIcons on in the ClassicWBADV pack? It seems like the option is greyed out when I go to NewIcons preferences.

ClassicWB uses Scalos for Newicons - only the RTG flag is used by the prefs program to make icons render in fastram; I don't think you can dither.

However, it's worth a try! I think the option is greyed out because you need to use the middle end library and not the high end one. Get the Newicon package from Aminet and try a different version of the library and see if the option comes back.

Ok, just tried this. There are three newicon libs in the official pack:

http://www.amiganet.org/NewIcons/

Low, Medium, High. You need to replace the one in the ClassicWB with the medium lib, then dithering is supported even under Scalos.

The RTG flag is now greyed out with the medium lib, one of the reasons I didn't use it, so I need to test if it affects rendering Newicons in fastram with FBlit and Iconbefast.

Thanks for checking that out for me, sorry for the late reply, I`ll download NewIcons again and install the medium lib, will see how it works.

No probs; just copy over the one lib file and overwright the high end one - don't run the install routine.

The medium seems to work ok in terms of saving chipram using FBlit, even though the RTG is greyed out and only meant to be a high end lib option. From my tests, it uses fractionally more Chip, but unlike the low end library it seems to still render in fastram.

You can tell straight away when Newicons are rendering in Chipram - it plummits with a few Newicon windows open.
