New music for old game, any suggestions?
I'm taking a game music writer course at the moment and for finals the task is to make scores and sound effects for a game of our choice. Could be an existing, new or imaginative.
I'm thinking about rewriting music/effects for a classic game. Little as an experiment on how (or even if) using a modern day score/effects would change the perception of the game. Does anyone know of a retro game (8 or 16-bit) that could work for this kind of experiment? Requirements is one title track and at least one in-game score. Preferably also something with a not too well-known soundtrack as I would like to compose new material with as little previous influence as possible. Thanks! |

Pretty much anything on the Spectrum would benefit from a soundtrack as the computer wasn't really capable of playing music at the same time as doing anything else. How about a soundtrack for Atic Atac?

Ultima IV: The False Prophet has a great atmospheric soundtrack. It might be interesting to rescore it. When Ultima IX was released on the PC the score had become quite orchestral.

I guess the best result you can get with a "good" game (i.e. gfx, playable) but with music/sfx you don`t like. There should be a lot of such games. Here are some random examples where I think they could profit from rewriting music/effects:
RickDangerous1&2, Nitro, Drakkhen, GoldenAxe, FirePower Of course there are better games available. |

I went for a Spectrum game for the first extreme audio makeover, Ant Attack.
It was a fun experiment. Will post a video on YouTube with the new tracks in place later on. And a link here as well |
