Dune 1 and 2 fan topic

I'd like to make a poll in which you may select your favourite house.
Will you choose noble Atreides, insidious Ordos or evil Harkonnen?
There are also sub-houses: Sardaukar (imperial forces), Fremen (native people of Dune) and Mercenary. Please vote if you are fan of Dune or have played Dune 1 or 2.

Didnt really like playing as the harkonnen in dune 2... well to start I did cos you got strong units, but then I found out I was working for some big fat guy... was more of a battle between atreides and ordos for me... I also like the colour green

Atreides for me.

Ah, the first Dune game. Probably the main reason I didn't go out much during the summer hols in 1992. That, along with Pushover and Hook.

I have such fond memories of both the Dune titles on the Amiga, the first for giving me something to do during the 6 weeks of boredom in the summer (If, like me, you went to boarding school, these hols did tend to drag). The second title was no doubt the reason that the odd peice of A-Level coursework didn't get handed in on time.

Sorry for waffle, it's as I said, these games have so many happy memories for me.

Ordos - I prefer neutral fractions/races in games (if available)... and I like green colour too (always choose Caesar when I play Megalomania )

Harkonnen had those BIG tanks (Devastators i think) which we're almost unbeatable. So i chose Harkonnen .

I always picked Atreides 'cos their home planet always looked like a nicer place to live than the other two. Not that this had any impact on the way the game played of course.

Harkonnen for me. Cool voice ("Atreides units approaching from the EAST!") and somewhat of a challenge to have the atreides sonic tanks against you, as well as those pesky rocket launchers from the ordos that turn your units to their side... (forgot the name). And of course the lovely devastator and the missile in the last levels... The missile beats a saboteur and the fremen by far in my opinion.

I preferred the Dune 1 adventure by Cryo over the Dune 2 RTS by Westwood.

For me Dune 1 has better music & graphics, Dune 2 better playability.

Loved Dune 2, ran well on my then stock A1200. I remember seeing it on my friends 2MB otherwise stock A500 and it was slow!

Also liked Dune 1, it had a great atmosphere and it made me go and get the Dune movie. (Which was kooky!).

Anyways, as for my favourite house, it was a tie between Harkonnen and Atreides. Harkonnen had some nice vehicles and weapons tho.

first time i completed dune2 was on a 500 using atriedes, all the freemen running around made it so slooow!! took over 4 hours to beat the last level!

i voted harkonnen because they are the easiest to complete the last level with, i think i have done it in about 45 minutes! (might of been less, but cant remember!!)

Moderately OT, but I believe it is the most appropriate thread .

I recently learnt that House Ordos (and perhaps other things) was taken from the Dune Encyclopedia, "an expansion of the Dune universe, background and commentary in the form of a reference text compiled and edited by Dr. Willis E. McNelly in 1984."

People might be interested in checking the Note of the Some Highlights section in the last link provided.

Just took a quick look and it seems to have some interesting things to read.

Apparently, long-time fans have it in high esteem, especially compared to the books by Kevin J.Anderson and Brian Herbert (which I must admit, I have also moderatly appreciated, at best. IIRC, I have stopped reading at the middle of the Machine Crusade):
