Imitation, a form of flattery?

Anyone else think that Gloom (1995) loading screens may have influenced loading screen of C: The Contra Adventure (1998 psx)?
Just noticed the similarity this evening whilst setting up project Eris on my PlayStation Classic.

I don't know, it feels a bit more of a generic thing to me.

If it is about the idea to have the antagonist(s) around the corner from the protagonist, like Sgt Jack V I believe there is no influence there. For instance, although the angle is different, the title screen from Wolfenstein 3D does the same thing:

Maybe there is a famous comic book/movie with such a picture that is studied in art classes and that might have influenced both artists?

Funny that the PS1 game obviously is copying themes from the Alien films and Gloom copied its sound effects from same.

There are certainly similarities in both images. I have a vague recollection of a similar scene in one of the alien films, maybe the first one with Ripley holding a gun, possibly the flame thrower with her back against a wall and the alien shadow around the corner? Can't find an image though.

And since lilalurl mentioned Wolfenstein does anyone else hear the similarity in the music between Wolfenstein - Get them before they get you and Half Life 2 - CP violation?

The half life song is faster but the rhythm is very similar.

Isn't it amazing what self isolation brings into your head....
