Not that it stops us having Spectrum Vs C64 slagging matches on RetroRemakes though. LOL. But it's all fun and games ('til someone loses an eye of course).

I've played a few emulated Speccy games recently and I like it.. it has a certain charm to it when the sprite changes colour to whatever colour happens to be in the background

The Dizzy games are great on the Spectrum, going to play those on that machine someday

THe Speccy was a wonderful and fun computer for games. I love Speccy games. Some people may be turned off by it, but not me.

I haven't used it a lot so far but I like it as well.. many cool games for the machine it seems and for some reason I actually like the graphics.

that's odd Fred... it seems odd not to hear you talking about being "turned on" for a change!

i much prefer it when people can say they like something that not everyone perhaps appriciates, without having to worry that certain others are gonna go out of their way to make them "justify" it (and then simply refuse to listen to the their reasoning anyway)

i'm never gonna go and argue the speccy is the worlds greatest computer, but i dont have much trouble in finding reasons why i prefer it to a lot of other popular home-computers and games-machines myself.

edit: arent we supposed to be talking about PC games?

Spectrum was ok. It helped A LOT in bringing up the computer generation.

It has better BASIC than my CBM64 (although you needed the fingers of a juggler both to "type" the commands and to do it on such a BAD keyboard - both the rubber and the plastic rectangular of "plus" reincarnations).

Its graphics sucked BIG time (some times it is questionable if it had better gfx than Atari 2600...).

I will never forget the common "tape loading error" near the end of loading (!) I witnessed at my friend's house waiting for minutes to load a game. I was a floppy user from day one, so this was unknown to me (the loading error - except when disks were dead - not the load times

)...

I have to be honest though. Before I got my CBM64 (or KNEW that I'd get one), I had a 1:1 Spectrum "rubber version" photo under the glass of my study table (I was maybe 8) and... practiced typing.

Ah, the days...

Now comparing speccy games with Amiga games on their "common" years is unfair. Then someone would make a video of the very late Amiga years (or even of today if we consider Amiga alive through the community - or AmigaOne etc. ...) and the 2nd (or 3rd) gen PC games (after VGA with true-color was common - because remember first VGA was far from true color)... and we wouldn't like the results. (not meaning that there are not some games that never ever grasped the original Amiga feeling in any other build - but that doesn't mean anything)

BTW with early 8 bitters it was fun writing software but this doesn't show well on any youtube.

NLS, nothing was gorgeous about the graphics of the ZX Spectrum, the best version of the Spectrum.
Nor were the graphics amazing for similar games for the MSX, SG-1000, ColecoVision, BBC Acorn Electron, etc.
But the grphics to me were charming and very simple. Focus on crisp, lively, very addictive gameplay.

i know a lot of the "big name" conversions on the speccy ended up monochrome, but compared to more "colourful" ports on other machines, sometimes i prefered that, becuase i like clarity.

My fave example is always New Zealand Story. which compared with the C64 version actually looks better imho with less colours, and handles a lot more like the brilliant amiga version. (which has a hidden speccy message on th title screen btw... maybe the two version shared development?) the C64 version, i'm sorry to say is dog ugly if you ask me.

there are many better games however, made with the ZX in mind, that worked extremely well within the obvious limitations.
