you explained it well damien. it makes sense thinking about it. the crackers removed the code input screens but not all checks so the game protection breaks the game when a check identifies a missing input code.
it's a matter of knowing how the game protection works and i did not know but your explanation made it clear to me why the bad cracked versions fail.
it seems that an original adf with codes is the best way to play this game in adf format right now and thanks to clenched we have the codes so happy days

The other question is, if Denis has an original too, then where is the aptitude card in his copy?

I never read it claimed anywhere that the game needed to be cracked to begin with. If I'm understanding the other thread, anything to do with checksums is for detecting if the game has been altered. It certainly must be to bypass the code question. Since dlfrsilver disk is unaltered, that part no longer enters into it.

Moving on to BarryB question. These codes are just combinations of letters that are able to spoof the game into believing the code was entered right. I doubt any of them are correct. Here is a different sheet made from a dictionary of a little better than a quarter million words. There may be an outside chance one of these could be the true answer.
Code:

@clenched: So although you can get into the game, the codes will fail the ingame checks and fail like the bad cracked versions

@dlfrsilver: That's unfortunate, now it's time to ask the resident experts for help with a crack then!

On a related note, there is a youtube playthrough that shows the person entering 'enrique' at the protection check, skip to 1:00 in this video: [ Show youtube player ]

right so from what clenched said the checksum checks check if the game has the correct checksum whenever triggered and if the checksum does not match then the game knows it's been altered in some way and throws annoying game protection Behavior at you ie: car breaking and so on.
i got it now lol.

cracked ADF now in the zone.

Doc check removed, checksums removed, and stupid blitter checksum generator removed which would fail on too fast a machine, though to be fair to the programmers, I don't think 040 and 060 was the intended target for this game.

Also has trainer mode that can be activated

Thanks to Clenched for playtesting, really not my thing, and he is happy with it, and so am I.

I might mention this game should be played on a real Amiga with a real CRT monitor. There is a section of track where the illusion of climbing a steep mountain grade is startling. I could almost feel my ears pop.

Nice work! I assume you just type anything at the initial doc check screen?

I think this so-called test card is nothing more than the manual. I've just downloaded the Italian HOL manual and the words from it worked. Get this. It didn't even matter if Italian or English language was picked.

the wording in game really makes it sound like there should be a test card included. how stupid is that when you need to refer to the manual. confusing lol.
