If we talk about banned games in Germany only, the list would become long. Brutal games such as Mortal Kombat, Moonstone, Sword of Sodan, Wings of Fury and way more are banned here. Also Wings and Rocket Ranger because of the appearance of Nazi symbols. Oh, and not to forget Doom, of course :-)

Doom got banned in Germany? How can they ban a game like that in Germany. Was the programming not up to the hiquality that Germans can do?

@ Ironclaw
You misunderstand me I am not looking just for clones. I am interested in any amiga game that has been banned before or after release for any reason. Whats the story behind Moonstone? @ Bobic, Interesting I didnt know blood splashing games were banned in Germany. Do you get the games as a German release, edited to show no or Green blood then? Like wise are games containing Swastika edited and then released or just banned? |

Wings may have been banned in Germany, but surely not due to the use of Nazi symbols. Wings was set during World War I, before the rise of the Nazi party, so that shouldn't have been a problem.

The first version of The Executioner was banned I think after Amnesty International complained about torture scenes in the game.
Giana Sisters was banned as was Katakis, both were blatant rip-offs of other games, they were only briefly on sale before being withdrawn. Ironically, Irem were responsible for Katakis being withdrawn because of the obvious similarities to R-Type, and then because of the work that Factor 5 did on Katakis, they were given the job of converting R-Type to the Amiga! |

Not quite a ban, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was censored in the UK and released as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles because the classification board took exception to the word 'Ninja'.

One of the Last Ninja games was banned in WH Smiths in the UK because it came with a plastic shuriken.

Not so. The reason why they were called 'Hero' turtles in the UK was solely to do with the BBC. They didn't think 'Ninja' was an appropriate thing for kids TV, so they asked Eastman/Laird to rename to 'Hero' for the UK market. The 2 films that came out were 'Ninja' not 'Hero' in the UK. |
