Best media for CD32

I'm thinking about buying TDK or Verbatim. What do you reckon? My brand-spanking new CD32 seems to hate Sony CD-Rs. Burnt them at all possible speeds with my Pioneer DVR-112D, which is a pretty good burner as far as I know

I have used all types of CD-R's on mine, aint had 1 problem yet at any speeds.

I used TDK, Verbatim, SONY, Tesco, unbranded. All worked fine.

If your laser is quite old, don't try to burn new CD-R because they have gold layer or some extra layer to protect the CD-R and the CD32 can't read through them

Don't forget that the CD32 is a 2X speed cd player that normally can't read CD-R......
So the basic CD-Rs (low-cost) should works greats because they don't have additional protecting layer.

Burning them at lower speed gives you good results

But you have to protect them by yourself in a CD box

Hmmmmm, why do people keep saying that. You might as well tell everyone to throw out their hifi's because they wont read CD-R's.

You will find its the laser has gone low emission (from being dirty) hence it has problems reading disc's.

In my experience burning speed makes no difference.

Could I damage my mainboard by tweaking the CD32 laser or would just the drive die in worst case?

No you cant damage the main board or the laser (never had 1 die cause I have turned it up to high) for that matter.

If your just boosting the laser power, simply turn a little clockwise (if you turn it to high, it will simply not focus on the disc). If its still playing up then it needs replacing. First thing though, is to clean the laser lens.

From my experience with PS1 lasers there is a "sweet spot" to be found with the laser. Too high OR too low and it didn't work. (And don't take anyones multimeter readings as gospel, your mileage may vary )

As FOL says it's very unlikely to damage your motherboard - worst case I guess is killing the laser. But if it didn't read anyway who cares?

All you can do is try them, as I have never had any problems with any type of disc manufacturer.

Okeydokey, I'm gonna try your suggestions and report back. The console is brand-new so I guess dirt isn't a problem.

Thx!
