Self fixing hard drive
I have recently had my external hard drive making a clicking noise which some say is the click of death and is the beginning of the end of it.
it was having trouble accessing the data so i have found a way to permanently cure this by putting the drive on its left hand side and copying to it for hours on end and in my case i was copying my ps1 games to it which took 12 hours non stop and when i had finished i put the drive flat on its base again and its been pefect ever since with no noises That's what i call magic. oh and by the way it is a seagate 1.5tb external hard drive and theres loads of people on the internet been getting this problem with it so dont chuck it away just yet. |

You had better believe them. It won't be a permanent fix. You won't be calling it "magic" for long.

Just thinking i used to turn my ps1 on its side back in the 1990's and it used to make it work again i wonder if the manufacturers are using ps1 parts in there latest hard drives.

1.5 TB sounds rather new, most likely less than two years old. I wouldn't trust this self-cure, even if it was ssuccessful. If it's still in the warranty period, I would bring it back to the dealer and get a new one.
For an old drive, I wouldn't care. I would try to cure it and use it as long as it works and then throw it away. But for a new drive I would take advantage of the warranty, even if I were able to fix it myself. |

My seagate external hard drive has a 2 year LIMITED warranty which sounds like to me you pay for the parts and not labour charges so its not really economical to get it repaired and i doubt they will replace it.
anyway i have got all my games backed up on loads of other hard drives so im not to bothered. On various internet sites they have tested all the major manufacturers and hitachi and samsung are the best overall and seagate is bottom of the table. its ever since seagate has taken over maxtor that the quality has gone down. so seagate your not getting my money anymore. |

Your drive is near to dead. This is a temporal solution, but I recommended you save all your information in one new HDD and put this one in the Trashcan. Now your drive works because of heads position, but...... Your drive is a 1.5TB.... check the firmware of your external case maybe not 100% support of HDD's biggers than 1TB?. --------- For me, best HDD's are Samsung and WD. But WD HDD's are "hot drives". Normally (on my DNS-323 & DNS-343 enclosures) Samsung drives works at 25-32º C, WD drives at 35-42º C I have bad experiences with Seagate & Maxtor HDD's.... very hot and big noise... also time of life is short (more bigger on old Maxtor drives, but not too much)..... |

i have already transfered my data to my other hard drives praying that the seagate didnt crash in the process but thankfully it did not click once in the 32 hours it took to transfer to the other drives.
i have bought a samsung one and the quality is superb compared to the others with its brushed effect metal body and on/off switch with adjustable loading/copying light and quiet operation. all the others are made of cheap plastic and so samsung show the others how it should be done. |
