Fast ATA/EIDE-2 problems

I'm trying to set up a fast-ata controller on my a1200, but got some problems doing so.

I installed the fast ata controller and ran the install ata3 to install the software needed on my harddrive.

It detects my drive (4GB cf) just fine, but when i try to reboot the machine afterworth it wont boot.

My setup is:
a1200 (1d4)
apollo 1260/50 with 32 mb
fast-ata/EIDE 2 controller from elbox.
4 GB cf card. (also tried with 8 Gb microdrive.

Does anyone have any experience with the fast-ata controller?

try with a slower setting I had the same problem with my 2gb CF. I think you get 1-5 and it defaults at 5 which is too fast.

ok... it was set at 4 as default... im gonna try and start at 0 and work my way up.

If not already done you have to save the settings with ATA3Prefs else it won`t work. Maybe you need to set SetPatch to skip scsi.device update.

how do i do that?
I'm using the updated scsi.device since i'm using a 8 gb microdrive, can i still use this or do i have to use the split drive thing?

another question
Should an a500 psu be enough to run an a1200 with apollo 1260 (with fan), fast ata and microdrive?

The fast ata controller gets really warm.
and system seems unstable

my fast ata also gets pretty warm but I have a mediator on top of it! for your setup I would really suggest an atx psu. Also is this all in a desktop? If so I bet its getting very warm indeed. My setup is towered.

On my desktop a1200 I use an amigakit atx psu and it works very well.

it is a desktop setup... have a small fan near the cpu which have a heat sink attached.... i added vga ram heatsinks for the mach chips on the fast ata as well.
Will any atx psu do?

What do you mean by "I'm using the updated scsi.device since..."? Which OS version do you use? Do you use a different SetPatch then the OS version. ata3.driver "has" its own scsi.device V50.0 (e.g. check with Scout). SetPatch (depands on its version) does patch scsi.device. So you need to say SetPatch it don`t patch it. Something like this:

SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES=scsi.device

I`m not sure if this is the correct syntax. For OS3.1 there is no need for this. 3.5/9 introduced scsi.device patch.

They do get hot!!!

No they don't. They might get warm, but they certainly don't get hot enough to require a heatsink (or even benefit from one).

well... i had some stability issues, felt the different circuits on the board and the mach's were too hot to touch.

The 060 on the other hand, heh..

same for mine... no problem with mach's on the 1260.
I did add a heatsink and a small fan to the cpu, since it starts crashing after about 1-2 hours up time.
haven't had time to test it after doing the modifications.
I'm not having it in a tower case, so not much circulation around the cpu without fan.
