Powerdrive from Rage Software/US Gold also uses level codes. I keygenned the optimal codes for HOL to start on each level with maximum money and minimal damage.

From memory it used most of the alpha-numeric characters from the alphabet to represent values, so B might be 0, C might be 1, E might be 2 etc. Some keys were skipped (possibly to prevent O being typed as zero etc) and the name was also encoded that way. One of the characters was a checksum. The first block of characters was a value representing the damage for each part of the car in the game, hence why the codes all start with a string of B's then a C (for headlight damage).

Lemmings is most likely another one!

Superfrog is hardcoded 6 digit level codes, they are not based on the player at all.

Gods. Not based on players progress, but each copy of the game generates its own levelcodes afaik.

I dont think so, but when you continue playing after you defeated the last guardian, the game is harder (monsters have more hitpoints).

In Lemmings, the player is not 'bringing' any stuff from one level to the next, so I guess they just depend on difficulty and maybe 1p/2p?

When I think of this topic, Sentinel on the C64 comes to mind. Quite advanced for a C64 game. I remember being amazed by all the levels it had (auto-generated from the level number in some way), and since I was about 8 years old at the time I had no idea at the time how to play the game.

Wiz'n'Liz

If I am not mistaken, the codes remember the number of lives, time left and finished levels (+ level of difficulty ofc). Fruits/vegetables owned are not taken into account it seems so they disappear if you restart and use the code.
