Amiga 4000 Keyboard
Hi all
My Amiga 4000 keyboard has 2 key caps missing. Does anybody know what keyboard type I could use for the replacement key caps? Thanks Last edited by Sanxion; 18 April 2018 at 23:41. |

I have got some assorted key caps, but I don't quite understand the description. I thought all A4000 keyboards are of similar construction. Could you take a photo of what is under the keys?

Thanks, good photos. It looks to me like it's the regular system with the springs (or possibly silicone cups that act as springs), you could check underneath an intact key if you wish.
Here's what my A4000 keyboard looks like under there: I think what has happened with yours is that the keys have been sheared off rather than pulled out cleanly. The neck of the key is still inside the stem/plunger part and the springs have probably just gone missing. I should have those key caps in my bits box, and I also have the springs and stems if needed. You'll need to see if you can extract the remaining part of the key (one method would be to thread in a small screw and use that to pull the piece out) and if not, take the keyboard apart and replace the stems entirely. |

This is a picture of the keyboard with the left Amiga key removed. The silicone band is there but no spring?
I would be very interested in you had the two missing keys! |

Yeah, it's either the spring or the silicone cup, not both They both serve to return the key to the up position, just the feel when typing is a little different.
I'll go through my parts bin and see what I find, I should have both of those keys and other parts. Will get back to you later. |
