Use WinUAE to access Amiga HDD

Ok feel free to chime in and tell me i'm an idiot and this can't possibly work...but.

I will soon have in my posession a 1200 (not entirely sure if i'll be keeping it yet but...)

1) If i put a 2.5"(6gb) HDD in my 1200 and partition it how i want it, Set it up with WB (probably ClassicWB).

2) Remove the HDD and place it in an external caddy(USB) and plug it into my laptop.

3) Can i then via my WinUAE (ClassicWB setup) add the HDD as an extra drive and copy a load of .adf's to it.

4) Put it back in my Amiga and use something like tsgui to write those .adf's to floppys?

5) Also if i use an IDE to CF adapter and use the same method, would i be able to mount it as a HDD on my laptop under WinUAE?

Is it as simple as it sounds in my head or will this not work?

Yep You can even set up everything in Winuae, installing workbench, classic wb or whatever load the whdload games into it and then transfer it to the Amiga, jumping straight to step 4

5. Correct, you can use it in winuae

Hi,

a word of warning: use WinUAE >= 2.3.3 beta 1.
There's a bug in 2.3.2 that won't let you use an external disk at all (see here).

Note that the bug only causes IDE emulation to hang immediately when writing is attempted.
uaehf.device ("UAE" HD controller) still works. It does not cause any disk errors either. (I already saw some strange assumptions somewhere else..)

Add a PC folder in winuae. Mount the folder as a hard drive with everything in it. Transfer using Dopus etc. inside WB and write. I use ADFblitzer as it's easy to use.
