I have bought a collector's PC CD-ROM that contains both Monkey Island 1, 2. Would you like me to send you the *.iso ?

I got a collection of both as well. Unfortunately I couldn't get either of them working on the PC. So I ended up downloading a cracked version which for some reason worked better than the version from the CD.

I got the PC version from the white label, 1 CD with MI 1 and 2, neither of them have speech typical. More typical, none of them work. That's why I went and found 2 cracked versions since the altered versions they put on the CD didn't work.
(Just to clarify, I know they don't have speech since there's simply not enough data on the CD. Not because I've gotten them running through some cunning tweak) |

I just realized that it's not a PC board plus that MI isn't really abandonware yet. Just thought that since I have MI for my amiga, I could just as well download the PC version. I want to try out the version with 256 colors and item icons. I downloaded the CD version, but the sound is PC speaker. How fun is that considering the great music in MI. @ Drake1009 Have you tried running it with VDMSound?? When I use that to run my CD rip, it says that I don't have the CD. |

no I haven't tried VDMsound. As far as I can figure out VDM is a program to fool dos-based programs which want direct access to hardware but can't have it because of the HAL and Microkernel structure of W2k and up. I run Win98SE and have tried booting up in plain dos. there's not enough data on the CD. Either there isn't a speech version. Or the guys who assembled the white label didn't want to put the games with speech on CD when all other Lucasarts games they've released have been with speech if available (Sam&Max, Indiana jones, Day of the tentacle...)

@ RetroMan
That's kind of overkill as it is. Especially when there's no sound yet! That is exactly why I wan't to them under windows (or DOS), so that I can play the 256c version with sound. There's gotta be a way. @ Drake1009 Hmm, I really don't know there were any speech implemented in the CD version, but I don't think so. But I'm more sure of that they implemented some sound and music besides the PC speaker. That's what I want, some sound... As it is now, I can play a 16 color version with sound, and a 256 color version without sound. How scre*ed is that? |

@Drake. Have a PC compilation of Monkey Island 1 & 2 with a demo of no. 3 from a budget re-release, & don't have extra sounds either,so I don't believe it's a "fault".
Was there a an enhanced PC-CDROM version released? After all I've got the CD version's (originals),of Indy Fate of Atlantis, D.O.T.T., Sam 'n Max & like you said they were all enhanced. |

The CD versions of the Monkey Island games aren't especially enhanced. They're in 256 colors and MI1 has item icons instead of just plain text. |

256 colours for Monkey Island 1? You'd be hard pressed to spot them,looks closer to EGA graphics,than VGA from those days. Monkey Island 2 was another story of course. A damm shame that the AGA Hard disk based Amiga's,with CD-rom never took off, a properly-written conversion of DOTT,Indy 4,etc. would've wiped the floor with the PC version's of the time.
But your info did confirm my thoughts that Indy & the fate of atlantis must've been their first "talkie" adventure. BTW Drake, I've found the best way to get those old adventure games working on Win 98 is to copy the game folders across to hard-disk. Once enough messing around with the sound setups was done it usually works with the soundblaster dos driver. |

the version I have is a "copy myself to harddisk" install. And even playing without sound freezes it. I'll try with Dosbox see if it's up for the challenge. THat program is a nice little thing to get old dosgames working.

Sure seems a lot of work to play mere PC games...

Indeed. Would love to play Monkey island on my Amiga, but there's one large problem with that. Either it's waiting for floppy activity and with degraded setup which lags the mouse, or it's HD installed with a mess like I've only seen in PC DOS games before.
Reason I'd like to have a PC DOS emulator when I have 98 and can boot into dos is to enable me to multask between communications with other people and playing games. For example checking up on the forum once in a while while playing MI would mean I should reboot every time, that or find a DOS version of Lynx or some other browser. |

Oh, sorry, my fault. Of course it's only EGA graphics. But still, it would be cool to try it out, I'm curious at the item icon graphics. @ Drake Why use Win98 at all? |
