Wanting to learn Blitz Basic on real Amiga
Had one particular idea chewing away at me for some time now and want to make it happen
I have a basic grasp of what programming is so figured Blitz2 say would be fine for this I know the pc is probably what i should be looking at but ideally i just want to do this for Amiga Any suggestions as to what i could or should use other than Blitz and where i should go to get it thanks guys |

I had Blitz Basic 2.1 on my Amiga. Its really superb. Try and get it off eBay if you can as it would be a big help to have the manual.
The only alternatives to Blitz are the bag of shite that is Amos Professional or 68000 Assembly language which is very difficult for a beginner to learn. Blitz is fast and easy to learn so I recommend you use Blitz Basic 2.1 for programming Amiga games. Amiga Format did some Blitz Basic tutorials so check out amr.abime.net for those. Good luck! |

Don't bother with Blitz 2.1, get AmiBlitz instead:
http://blitz2000.gazchap.com/ Fixes plenty of bugs in Blitz and adds loads of new functionality. EDIT: ...Though there's a version 3.1, apparently: http://amiblitz3.amiforce.de/ |

I've heard people bad mouth the newer AmiBlitz. I've never used it so I don't know what its like. That version 3 looks like a German version. |

AmiBlitz is in English but it's bloated and buggy and awful. I'd stick with 2.1 and get hold of the Blitz Support Suite extension, it's very good.

Ok man thanks again Blitz2 was what i had originally so i may try that over Amiblitz, at least i may still remember some of it over Amiblitz.Prob try both though and anyway i'm not going to know the differences what with my lack of programming skills.
Cheers |

Well it's an interaction of characters set in a type of limbo. Not overally visual in any dramatic sense rather i'm hoping to use space and colours well enough to create a deeper sense of being in the game - striking rather than detailed graphics.Tracking of inhabitant's status in a fairly small location to play a big part but all hidden behind crude but effective methods for doing so.Just an idea that works very well in my head right now. I have real trouble with even the most advanced of games these days in that they don't really represent any significant advance like what i had hoped for from AI in general and interaction with AI.IF simplified and through use of smoke and mirror, it's possible to pull off some quite believable stuff even on something seemingly less likely as an Amiga. Iv'e planned quite a bit already as to be fair this idea requires a good years planning if it's to work well.To get further with this idea i need to at least have a fair understanding of programming. Hopefully something will come of it but in truth i know i'm up against a very large hill with this. The one saving thing i do have though is i know this works not just inside my head - just got to properly implement it now Last edited by Adropac2; 15 August 2008 at 05:53. |

Heh, "buggy and awful" is how I'd describe Blitz 2 when you've got an 060 accelerator. It works really well on my 030 (and AmiBlitz not so well), but it's frustratingly terrible on my 060 (on which AmiBlitz is pretty good).

AmiBlitz on my 040 and AGA is terrible and far too sluggish and it crashes all the time. And some of the requesters don't fit on the screen properly. (Also it runs slower with the debugger turned on than Blitz 2.1 and it seems to create bigger executables.) On the other hand Blitz 2.1 (with BSS installed) runs like a dream on my machine. I guess it does depend on what type of setup you have. |

Amiblitz is great here with 060+voodoo3-P96 on 800x600x16.
If amiblitz3.1 have problems on real amiga with AGA or 1240, just contact the author on amiforce and help to have a better amiblitz3. - the welcome requester could be removed by tooltypes. - most/all the windows could be resized and saved (f4-f5-f6). I have no experience with amiblitz on AGA for sure but with reports with the author, on amiforce forum or direclty, things should be better for AGA in the futur ??? hum, write 2 times the same ;-) |
