Real Amigas are not able to boot from CD (except CDTV and CD32) so it´s also not possible with WinUAE But you can make a boot disk (adf) that holds the Amiga CDFileSystem and mounts the CD Drive so you can "boot" from there (well, kind of)

What do you need it for ?

You can also cheat by setting up your CD-ROM path as your hard drive If it's a proper amiga CD with a startup script etc. it should work. Amiga Format's coverdisk CDs worked for me but that was an old winuae version.

I think this is not true for real miggies, you can select the (SCSI only?) CD drive in the early startup menu with the Cyberscsi2 module.
It's the "El Torito" CD format (MasterISO2 had some support for that)

Correct me if I'm wrong, I think the OS CDs are bootable, no?

the reason i need to boot from cdrom is that winuae 0.8.27 refuses to open all my cdrom coverdisks from workbench and as most of the coverdisks have a full boot system installed (s/startup-sequence,c,libs etc) it seemed the simplest way to solve the problem.
setting the hard drive path to the cdrom drive has worked fine. thanks everybody for the help.
the older versions of winuae didnt give me the same problem

But it should work without using the CD as HD !! Which CDFileSystem do you have installed ?

Try to change the MaxTransfer size to 0xfc00 in the CD0 file, sometimes WinUAE and modern CDRoms have difficulties with standart maxtransfer rate !

On a REAL amiga, you CAN boot from CDs if your SCSI interface is autobootable, I think. Why wouldn't it work if it works even for ZIPs?

CD support need CD filesystem driver and I don't think there was any SCSI controllers with CD filesystem in boot ROM..

I think RDB formatted CDs would autoboot

Correct. At least ASPI has max 64K (or was it 128K) transfer limit, not sure about non-ASPI mode.

Maybe someday I'll add SCSI parsing code that automatically splits too large transfers or something..
