Hi,
I've been extremely busy with one of my non-Amiga based projects the last 2 weeks so all work on this is on hold for the moment. I will pick it up again. Took a quick look at the PCFloppy2Amiga archive. Will need to digest it but it has a lot of info. Looking into mopping up the extra logic using a 16V8 PAL as it will allow me to keep the board small enough. Looking into device programmers for this. That's it for now. Ian |

Hi!
I made this adaptor for PC's floppy to my Amiga 600 and it's work. I can run Workbench 1.3, 3.1, some games (disks are NDOS), like Superfrog. But I have a problem... I can't format disks in Workbench and X-Copy (this program show notify: 'no disk in DF0:'). What can I do? Help, please... |

Hi,
The Xcopy/format problem I am aware of and know how to fix it. My amigas used for testing are 6,000 miles away at the moment so there has been no progress Basically the circuit needs to latch the diskchange signal, something like a 74HC74 D-type will suffice. I am also looking into another feature, details if it works. Bye, Ian |

Well I'm back in the UK.
Not had much time to play with the Amigas due to other commitments. Can fix the Xcopy/format issue, I'm now starting to look at fixing the HD drive support. Will get the logic analyser hooked up soon. The fact the heating in my workshop is not working at the moment makes progress slow It may be the christmas break before I get back to this project. Bye, Ian |

Let's hope Santa brings you a heater (There's pretty good oil filled ones in instore for 20 quid at the moment if he needs a hint - one is keeping my loft warm when I'm in it )

Speaking for myself, there's no rush, Stedy...will be glad to get an item that works nicely and can wait for it!

Hi,
I have the heating fixed in my workshop, so next week some work can commence For the first new prototype I will use a 22V10 PAL device as I can easily change logic without re-wiring the board! The next prototype PCB will have better connections for my logic analyser. At the moment, I have to lift up the floppy drive cable slightly and hook into the cable there, sometimes the cable comes loose and it all stops working! There are a few issues using this part in the final design: 1) PAL devices are mature technology and going obsolete, 2) The small stock of parts I have are non-ROHS, 3) My programmer only supports Cypress parts. Anyone here ever tried programming a Lattice PAL with a JEDEC file for a Cypress part? I can get Lattice parts cheap and easily from Farnell. Suppose I should by one and see what happens. All challenges to overcome... Depending on how the research goes, if I use a 22V10 PAL I will look into supplying a programmed device and PCB as a kit, the other components are easily available. Any PAL VHDL code will be made available for download. Ian |

You could always ask Jens to release the schematics + logic equations..
Hohoh and pigs may fly. I wonder why he discontinued that? RoHS? Most people regard the kylwalda as a unit that switches floppy drives between two controllers, but especially these days the PC drive conversion feature is more and more important. :-) |

do you have a PCB image that we could use to transfer to a copper board and etch ourselves? also what about a parts list?

Hi,
I have the DD floppy fix working ok now, one wire link and a track cut was all it took on my existing design! Xcopy works fine, downloaded the Xcopy Xmas 93 edition to test with. Sanity Arte, State of the Art and Spaceballs nine fingers demos are all working fine. I will update the schematics in the next 2-3 days. Have obtained information on how the HD drives work so I shall be building a prototype PCB soon. This will use a PAL/GAL device. Have downloaded the Lattice semiconductor software as the Cypress devices I use for prototyping are obsolete, this allows me to easily retarget the design later on. Time for a drink. |

Happy new year!
The PCB for the basic adaptor board is complete. It has been tracked so that you can either use a single sided PCB with 3 wire links and a cable to the PC floppy drive or a double sided board and an edge IDC connector. I need to finish the silkscreen and design rule checks but with the use of Eagle3D I present: From the bottom up, the first 34 way connector is the one from the Amiga. The second is the optional connector to connect to the FDD via a cable. SMD pads provide an option for a side mounted IDC socket. Eagle 3D does not have models for these parts, hence they are missing. The solitary hole in the bottom right is for the optional Escom A1200 nRDY fix cable. Bye, Ian |
