Wink WinUAE & Picasso 96 Problem?

Hi all, this is my first post so please be gentle with me.

I am using WinUAE, i have currently copied all off the files over from my old original amiga1200 that i had in a tower over onto it and i am struggling to get picasso96 to work at all.

I have installed picasso96 on to the workbench partition, and although the uaegfx monitor driver is in Devs/monitors it isnt appearing in my prefs/screenmode selector.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that i had a pc monitor adapter installed on my original amiga and i had to install something to enable me to get the amiga graphics to output correctly onto the pc monitor but for the live of me i cant remember what.

Can anybody please help me get the RTG system working on my winuae.

Thanks in advance.

You've just said it yourself: RTG system.
So did you remember to specify RTG memory in the settings?

The best graphics card driver cannot give any results without a graphics card

Ive set up my ram in winuae, and have 32mb of RTG Ram, however, after picasso96 is installed on workbench, i still can not select uaegfx in screenmode even though it is in devs/monitors

You could try to start Picasso96 with UAEgfx from a shell
> Devs:Monitors/UAEgfx
> set
to see what the returncode is

and send us your startup-sequence and your Winuaelog.txt

I dont seem to be having any luck with what you suggest peterk, i tried specifying what you said in the startup-sequence, but it kept on saying something like Devs:Monitors/uaegfx not a valid command.

I have compressed my entire DH0 partition with lzx. It is 24mb in size if you want to download it and have a look at where i am going wrong. You may want to disable the user-startup as it assigns a lot of stuff from other partitions.

My WorkBench - link deleted

Thanks for taking a look, i am also attaching my WinUAE logs.

winuaebootlog.txt

winuaelog.zip

and my startup sequence

startup-sequence.zip

set_ddraw: Trying 1024x768, bits=32, refreshrate=60
DDRAW: Primary flipping surface created in video-memory
try_surface_locks() returning primary
set_ddraw() called, and is 1024x768@32-bytes
Full screen mode (bits: 32, pixbytes: 4)
changing priority to Normal
SetSwitch() from threadid 5856 - showing picasso96 screen

</clip>

Picasso96 seems to work..

Your problems are most likely caused by some hardware-specific utility or driver. You should only have PAL, NTSC and uaegfx in devs:monitors, also make sure uaegfx and needed libraries are from latest Picasso96 installation.

For example this is not normal:

Illegal lget at 08000000 PC=f8397c
Illegal lget at 08000000 PC=f8397e
Illegal lput at 08000000 PC=f8397e
Illegal lput at 08000004 PC=f8398a
Illegal lget at 08000000 PC=f8398e
Illegal bget at 9cee0800 PC=f00362

The rest of the log only shows complete crap caused by confused program doing random writes to random registers..

Just one thing... have you copied RTG.LIBRARY that comes with WinUAE into SYS:Libs ? Try this, reboot the Amiga and check the Picasso prefs afterwards. rtg.library is located in Winuae\Amiga Programs

yep have copied the rtg.library over, you see i have more than one configuration working, i have a vanilla install that has just got 0S3.5 on and picasso96 installed, rtg graphics working fine.

and the one i am having trouble with, which is the entire contents of my old amiga's hdd drive lzx'ed and copied over to my winuae configuration.

Here is an uptodate log

winuaelog.txt

i am aware that i might have some hardware specific program starting up, but i am unable to find it, its got nothing to do with the user-startup or startup-sequence as i disabled everything in them and the problem is still occuring, so it must be somewhere else.

"Illegal bget at 9cee0800 PC=f00362" these messages are not supposed to be here (illegal accesses from UAE filesystem "boot rom")

Try removing all unneeded directory filesystems first. Also try adjusting Z3 RAM and RTG RAM sizes (maybe there are some combination(s) that do not work due to some emulation bug..)

Ah! On my P96 test configuration, I have no Z3 RAM set at all, maybe that is what confuses WinUAE and what could "fix" it.

Not really. Most "serious" users use 16+MB Z3 RAM in Picasso96 WB configuration.

From what I could see of your startup-sequence, you still got LoadIDE running..... though it shouldn't be a problem.

then you have SetPatch, followed by
C:PATCHOPENWB
IF EXISTS S:CD32-STARTUP
EXECUTE S:CD32-STARTUP
ENDIF

which can all be deleted/remmed out (for now)

You got your User-Startup readily available?

I've checked the lzx file now and tried to fix it. What a big mess !!
To load Picasso96 successfully I changed your startup-sequence
and renamed the WB-Startup drawer. It's your job to reenable all
these proggies one by one. startup-sequence.txt
Btw, there are two files infected with a virus (MUI and another one).

Thanks PeterK,

I meant to get back on yesterday but i sorted it myself quite late. In the end i did this to get round it. I installed OS3.5 on my original workbench and it was still doing the same thing so then i just copied all of the files from my plain OS3.1 upgraded to 3.5 onto my original workbench, and voila RTG UAE worked fine.

So then i just recopied over my original Startup-sequence and User-Startup and bang back to what was happening unable to select UAEGFX.

I did a bit off fiddling around and determined myself that the user-startup is fine and i can continue using that but all along it was something to do with my original startup-sequence.

I am going to compare both startup sequences today to see if i can figure out what was causing all the problems. Although they both look very similiar to what is starting up.

Thanks for having a look at my lzx file though mate, i agree it probable was a mad mess, but it worked perfect for me when i was using it as my main system on my real amiga. However, i probably havent touched it for over 6 years.

BTW, what do you recommend to get rid of the virus, does it have to be done through the amiga side, or can i run it via pc side as my workbench is setup using pc directory to make it easier to copy and paste programs?

Amiga virii won't be detected by Windows scanners, I'm afraid you'll have to use an Amiga scanner.

I used VirusExecutor v2.34 together with xvs.library v33.42.
It detected Sys:MUI/MUI as a MUI v4.0 fake for example.
Just replace it with the original file from the MUI v3.8 archive.
Sorry, but I don't know the second infected file, because I switched
on the automatic virus deleting after the first dectection occured.
