Amber Ring (pre-release name for Amberstar)

Just found this bit at the end of the Dragon Flight preview/test in Zero Issue 6:

I wonder if the name was ever mentioned/used anywhere else?

I've never read "Amber Ring" elsewhere.

The German press (Power Play) calls it Amberstar in an early "Making of"-report.

Thank you for the link I also can't find any other mention of the name 'Amber Ring' for the game.

I've never heard it called Amber Ring before now. Thanks for pointing this out. I'll ask.

Sometimes only in one preview you can find pre-release name. I have the same situation with "Chess Trought the Ages" named "Soft Pawn" in only one preview.

"Chess Through the Ages" never had prerelease name like this - it was probably trumped up by the reviewer.

That's what I think about the Zero pre-release name for Amberstar too. Let's see if Alex can find out more about it.

I asked programmer Jurie Horneman who was the lead programmer on Amberstar but he doesn't know. Amberstar was started by Karsten Koeper before Jurie joined and only he or perhaps Erik Simon will know.

Not that early. The article from Zero is about a full year older. You would need to find other coverage of the game from 1990 to confirm.
