Yeah, it was basically a successor to the Amiga, in that it was very powerful and a very affordable alternative when compared to a high-end PC at the time.

The Atari Jaguar was the only true successor! Maybe the Neo Geo... even if Amiga wasn't dead then... what?

If that's your qualification of what makes a "successor" to the Amiga then I call this the TRUE successor.

So, you compare a sandwichtoaster to a PC?

Seriously, you should change your name to killertroll. Read the whole post, don't take things out of context. Try not to be so condenscending.

Nor did I imply that.

Good call KG- but I'm not convinced by the graphics. I cannot be the true successor of the Amiga as it only seem able of 16 shades of yellowish-brownish.

EDIT: Take it easy StarEye, KG is a good lad He's not condenscending, only has a "special" sense of humor

Seriously, no.

But you'd happily consider comparing a PC to a games console.

A games console which can do very little that an Amiga could do other than play games.

They both have very little in common.

Which was my point. Which you missed.

EDIT: And thanks Nostalgeek, I think

I never said you did but I dont think you can compare a games console to a computer for that very reason. Of course you could argue that once a console is hacked it is an open platform but to me its still not quite the same thing imho.

I know all that, I know what KG is saying, and know what you are saying. But I was not saying anything that contradicted it at all. I compared them as two gaming systems, both being affordable and powerful altnernative to a pc. What's so difficult about that?

If I said "The Playstation is the successor to the Amiga" and stopped there, you both would have a point, but I didn't. Selective reading, and all that.

I'm really disappointed in you EAB.

What that really necessary? O_O

Take it easy buddy. Nobody implied you were stupid.
It's not selective reading at all, you said

"Yeah, it was basically a successor to the Amiga, in that it was very powerful and a very affordable alternative when compared to a high-end PC at the time."

..and we just don't think that being "powerful, affordable and userfriendly" makes the comparison valid, even in the field of games.

PSx could be an alternative (or a successor, if you want) to the Amiga if you see the miggy _strictly_ as a game machine, which it is not.

Then comparing the PSx to a PC, same problem, PC is not a dedicated game machine.

So all in all, saying the PSx was a successor of the Amiga is flawed. That's what we pointed out.

No hard feelings, everybody's entitled to an opinion, etc... and I think nobody was disrespectful to you or your opinions at any time and don't blame the whole EAB for a few folks. This place is awesome.

Yeah, you're right, it wasn't necessary.

But as I said, I didn't say it was a successor, full stop. For gamers, Amiga was a very affordable alternative to PCs. For gamers, a Playstation was a very affordable alternative to PCs. Also, don't forget that many used their Amigas and their Commodore 64s and PCs purely for gaming. Because, you know, they had different games than consoles, so it could very well be considered an alternative to console, why not the other way around?

And KG was condenscending, wether you blame it on (bad) humour or not. He took my words out of context and made a sarcastic remark about it as if I was stupid for saying it, then not even giving an argument why (in that post, mind). That's condenscending.

In 1985 or even 1987 there was no 'PC' for gaming around to worry about.

I think at the time there weren't many people who had a pc purely for games it was more a nice extra.

@KG I love the open platform of the toasted sandwich maker

Lets all have a group hug and think nothing more about it
