problem with floppy drive on 1200....
I just got a winner tower of ebay, and tried it, it boots fine and works great of the HD... but it does not recognise any floppies inserted...
I thought the drive was damaged and exchanged it with a working one, still the same... changed the floppy cable, still the same... u cannot read a floppy disk or format it... it gives a "cannot find cyclinder 0" error (or something similar... ) is one of the cia's dead? |

Keropi, im not 100% sure, but i seem to remember an old thread (dont remember where), about some little differences between machines manufactured by Escom and by Commodore. This differences concerned the follpy drives, but there were also a solution (easy) to "fix" this..
You have an Escom mobo? What revision of mobo you have? If i can find the thread im talking about, i will send you a PM with the link regards Sebastian |

the escom (it's actually amiga technologies) issues are not the problem here!
I have an AT mobo and floppy and also a normal mobo and floppy. The normal floppy will NOT work on then AT mobo without a simple modification but the AT floppy will work (sort of) onthe normal mobo! With the AT floppy on a normal mobo you cannot change disks as it doesn't recognise the disk has been changed! |

oh.... it could be a wrong combination of floppy/mobo because it is an old stripped-down machine.... it had scala, a 060 and who knows what else... also the floppy cable was new, so it could be that the seller (he sold 3 similar machines at once) made a combination error? maybe it worths to try the fix, what it is?
it won't get worse if it is fried |

Turn the board upside down and have a look if there is a wire going from pin 2 to 34 on the floppy connector ?
If so, then it is an ESCOM board. To make it a C= board you have to solder the wire from 1 to 34 instead! Then you can use a real Amiga diskdrive and not a PC one like the ESCOM boards use ( which doesn't work with NDOS disk, btw. ! ) |
