I wouldn't say that this is WinUAE 0.99 not working.
Rather your Emulated Amiga running under WinUAE 0.99 not working. However if you haven't changed anything then it is likely to be the upgrade, possibly a config file to do with hardfiles or something. I think you need to post more details, such as config and what hardfiles you are using etc... |

I did´t changed anything. Just installed new version 0.99 instead of 0.827.
Before everything worked fine, now just shows "Version failed returncode 20". Same paths, kickstart, memory, cpu ... |

Remember to backup your config file before doing any editing! It may be needed for debugging.
Ok, does all configuration settings in GUI look correct? Especially KS ROM and harddrive settings. My guess is wrong Kickstart or wrong boot hard drive. Does it start working if you load the config, save it, restart WinUAE and try again? (remember backup!) |

There doesn't seem to be a harddisk path when I open it with winuae but this exists in the config:
filesystem2=rw,DH0:System:C:\Program Files\WinUAE\DATA\System30,0 filesystem=rw,System:C:\Program Files\WinUAE\DATA\System30 |

Hmmm... The error message you mentioned usually happens if games/programs that are incompatible with OS 2.0 are loaded with KS 2.04 or 3.x and vice versa (game/program is loaded with KS 1.3 but requires 2.04+ , and the programmer hasn't properly caught the error; this will usually result in a system message similar to the one above). |

set echo on execute s:startup-sequence The error will occur again, but now all commands are listed before they are executed. Look at the command above the error message (should be something with Version) and enter it manually. Another, more meaningful, message should appear now. Please take another screenshot. |

I see your using the PC`s Filesystem, 0.9.90 changed the way Files are stored on PC-Filesystems and apparently is somewhat incompatible to previous Versions. I believe it affects Fileflags and on my "shared Folder" the .info Files vanished.
You could try running an older WinUAE and copying your PC-Filesystems to a HDF, and then use that HDF in the current Version. |

What about entering C:Version manually as I said to see what it complains ? In the script the output is written to >nil: so the actual error message is hidden.
As far as I can see yet, there is nothing wrong, so the error could occur on a HDF either. Additionally, using a HDF is a workaround, not a fix. If directories do not work, it is a WinUAE bug which has to be fixed. |

It could well be that the file required aint be found (prolly something in ENVARC: ?) due to directory Troubles. A HDF aint a workaround, its the better Way in my Opinion . Its not dependend on the Hosts Filesystem and WinUAE`s tricks to make Amiga-Features work. Not that theres anything bad with it, but I prefer having HDFs. Further if Vasek has no Probs with using a HDF we know for sure the Problem is WinUAEs FileSystem-Changes and nothing else. |

Seems that C:Version requires libs:version.library
Try running C:list LIBS:v#? (# is on Shift+3 and ? on Shift+ -) and see what you get Should be very similar to the following Code:
Directory "dh0:libs" on Monday 02-Aug-04 version.library 272 ----rwed 06-Jul-94 12:38:59 1 file - 2 blocks used |
