Somebody stop me if I'm talking shite, but, assuming the numbers supplied are correct then the HDToolBox parameters should be:

Cylinders: 3992
Heads: 19
Blocks per Track: 110
Blocks per Cylinder: 2090

Blocks and Sectors are synonymous so the Average Sectors per Track value will suffice for BpT, the BpC figure is just the number of heads (19) multiplied by BpT (110).

Thanks, I'll try those settings tonight. So anyone give me a ballpark of how long I should expect a low level format to take?

Tried those settings which seemed right, (2 partitions 2gb+ each). Tried the low level format....hung up again 10hrs and still going when I left.

I guess its find another drive time

Only OS3.5+ have >4G drive support. You will get data loss/corruption if your total used drive size (sum of all partitions. (yes, I know that isn't exactly right but it is easier to explain this way)) is >4G. Old FFS most likely won't support >2G (to max 4G) partitions properly either.

(and doing low level format is pointless, modern drives either ignore it or do regular format)

I hope you get your hard drive running soon... makes me sad to see the effort you make and get no reward

Technically this is not correct

(yes, newer driver with large drive support may need fixed DMAC for better/more reliable operation but DMAC revision has nothing to do with drive size)

It is regularly quoted that DMAC2 is required for GURU ROM... dunno if this is true or not...

Did the 2091 / 590 ever ship with DMAC2?

If not, could you (were users officially encouraged to) buy them separately, or is this an unofficial upgrade made by hacking users who ROBBED them from A3000's perhaps as they were being upgraded?

I have just installed a 4.3 GB drive into my A590 with 6.6 ROMS and DMAC1. The drive is partitioned into two 2GB partitions, and works fine. I used the HDToolbox that comes with the WB3.1 install disk (I have KS3.1).

My only problem is the noise, it's a 7200 RPM drive, very loud! I wish I had a 5400 RPM drive, I doubt this setup can take advantage of a fast drive.

It will load but some programs refuse to work. A real lifesaver when I got my A600 and found that system (2.04 I think) floppies were corrupted. CrossDOS worked without problems.
