Help this poor idiot

I have just found, after many years of searching, and ADF file of a game called "Ebonstar". This was one of the best games I ever played on my Amiga, but of course it died when they went from the A500 to the A500+ - not because of incompatibility, as with a lot of games, but because Commodore relased a cheapo keyboard with the 500+ that wouldn't accept multiple keypresses...and Ebonstar allowed 4 players to use one keyboard!

Anyway, to the matter at hand...how do I get this file to run on a PC? I have looked at the FAQ but don't find it very clear...if it's possible to get other ADF files to run on a PC I may well get hold of some of those too.

So...step by step guide for an idiot please! (I already know that I'll have to buy a kickstart ROM from somewhere, and I've seen the link in the sticky...but I don't want to do that if I then don't know how to get the ADF filed to work).

You need an emulator to run the ADF.

Yes you do need a kickrom

For winuae you will need a config file to 'make' the emaultor act like an a500.

are you sure you've read the faqs n shit?

being a beginner to Amiga emulation i would suggest you obtain yourself a copy of Amiga Forever. it comes with legal kickstart roms and some quickstart configurations that will help you get up and running with a couple clicks.

if you want to do it the cheaper way just download yourself the latest version of WinUAE (which is used by Amiga Forever anyway) but then you'll have to "obtain " some kickroms.

pay a visit to the WinUAE website to get the latest version of the emulator.

If it's an a500 game, you would be least likely to experience problems with the kickstart 1.3 rom
1.2 will work just the same, it's just slightly sluggish compared to 1.3

using one of the flavours of UAE, try selecting OCS chipset (if it was an a500 game, it may not like ECS. Some dont for some reason). 512kb chip memory and 512k expansion. Slow or fast, whatever they call it.
Choose 68000 for the cpu.
Then go to the floppy disks tab and navigate to your adf file. then reset or unpause the emulation.

Oh, you may want to save that config. Its the safest one for a500 games.

You might as well get adventurous now and mess with all the settings and see what happens.

UAE comes with some basic bootstrap code too that apparently lets some games etc work without a rom. I think you'd be lucky to find one that works without the ks though.
