Absolutely stunning game. It takes the Speccy beyond its limits.

Shame a niche run of a proper boxed copy will never happen, could make them a bit of cash, except Konami's sharks will surely be biting then!

The game looks incredible for a Spectrum game as well as a homebrew production. I hope we can produce something of this quality, and hopefully using original characters and themes for the Amiga this year. Unfortunately the game ran unbearably slow on my 50Mhz 030 A1200 using Asp.

I thought the Amiga had a decent 128 Spectrum emulator?

CBSpeccy and ASp are great emus for 030+ systems. ASp's older versions had a custom AGA screen option which was pretty fast too.

This is quite simply the best Spectrum home-brew game I've played in a long time. Great graphics, animation and SFX/music. Cool story-line too with plenty of dialogue which tends to lack in some games because of memory limitations on the humble Speccy.

The set enemy patterns is a real blessing as it makes the game that little easier, especially for someone as old as me heh heh. However, the first boss I've encountered is a right swine to beat. Of which I've not yet beaten.

Otherwise, I can't fault this game at all. Not noticed any bugs either.

And I'm finding this game compelling addictive. Although *cough* the "quick save" option in the Spectrum emulator helps before I venture into a new area because I have died a fair amount of times. I don't have much free time so it cuts down on back-tracking.

Full credits and congratulations to the designer/developer of this game.

I agree, IFW, this game seriously would had been - imho - a major hit back in the day. Wouldn't it be great to see some mock up reviews/ratings from the likes of Crash and Your Spectrum magazines?

Yay! I just beat the first boss.

I've gone far left as possible and there's these sodding flame breathing monsters that are a bit of a pain to defeat at the moment. Does anyone know if the secondary weapon is limited or infinite when purchased from town shop?

Just beat the blue boss. Pretty hard so far, but impressive and enjoyable. Nice that some stuff is seen just out of reach in true metroidvania style. Also nice to see that the game avoids cheap deaths to a certain extent even though it is hard. Good to see a continue option, although I think a save game to tape feature would have been welcome for those poor souls trying to get through it on real hardware. I'm playing it on PSP and have no shame at all in admitting I'm save stating pretty much every screen. I think the dialogue could be tightened up a bit and there are a few spelling mistakes but otherwise hard to fault considering it's on a speccy. It's absolutely commercial quality, the attention to detail so far is amazing.

Was it even possible to become millionaires through a game in those days?

Maybe not from profiting off a single game, but one really stand-out game back then launched the careers of a few millionaires.

Been playing this recently. I can't get massively far (oh for a password/save option) but it's just stunning in virtually every aspect. Amazing. Perhaps I should start seeking out the 'proper' Castlevania games. Any Castlevania and/or Speccy fans who haven't given this a go yet - do it now, if not sooner.

The only real downside is waiting twelve minutes for it to load from tape (the sole reason I haven't played it more frequently) - looks like I will be purchasing a DivMMC for my +2 come payday then...

Is long time that i have an idea on do a metroidvania/cadash game style loosely based on the manga Xenon of Kanzaki...
...if only the new gamemaker was out or wish my blitz learning skills to bring me to have the skills to do a game like that
