Floppy disk Backing -Up E-Mail to a CD

Ok guys. I've a question to ask all you knowledgable folk. I have a friend who is trying to backup all his e-mail to a CD. I've been able to do it on my machine (Windows XP) but he's told me he's unable to get the thing working on his machine. He's a very mature man (quite old) and so does get a bit confused by computers so keep the instructions easy for him.
He's using Microsoft Windows Me and Outlook Express 6. I think he wants to know where is the e-mail stored on his computer and he wants to be able to read the e-mail directly from the CD somehow. I'm not sure if that's possible though. Hope someone can help.
