Amiga Spirit Inboard 500 ram expansion with broken pin, how to repair and test it?
Hello,
I recently came into possession of this beautiful expansion for A500, passed off as not working. https://i.postimg.cc/sxChysJn/IMG-20190910-223902.jpg Actually I noticed that the card has a broken pin and I really believe that the problem derives from that. https://i.postimg.cc/pLsz8N2T/IMG-20190910-223832.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/HLKMZQ81/IMG-20190910-223848.jpg Is there any way to fix it without having to change the entire socket according to you? Furthermore, do any of you know about the Gary pin to connect it to detect the additional ram (1.5 MB)? |

The broken pin seems to be the D_5 data pin - so it is important.
You could test that the card is working by getting another CPU socket and putting it in that and solder a wire from the broken pin to the socket it should go in to. I suppose this could be used as temporary solution or a long term solution. But since it raises the card slightly (because of the extra socket) this might be an issue. |

I think the lowermost part with the broken pin and the blue plastic rim is just a socket stacked to the underside of the board. My suggestion would be to try and carefully pry that loose. You then simply put a new precision socket in its place...

I also had this impression, but it's not a socket: I tried to take it off but it's firmly attached over all the surface, so it's a unique piece.

Ok, pin replaced
Now I have to test the card but I do not know what Gary pin to connect in order to detect the additional ram (1.5 MB) |
