Chase HQ - AGA fixed by Galahad

I was playing about with Galahad's HD patch for this game and wondering why no version on TOSEC works with the provided patchfile... and then it dawned on me that maybe I should be using his specific fixed release of the game, but it's not in the TOSEC to date, sooooooo.... anybody happen to have it?

Thankie!

Well, so far, so good. Though after I unpack the main data file (which is crunched with Imploder) to turn it into an ADF again, the resulting image will not work under a quickstart A500 setting, guruing after 15-20 seconds of loading. Hmmm.

Wonder if Galahad could provide any more information?

My experiences are, that AGA-fixes often dont work anymore on A500.

I think his patch is for real Amigas, it's not his job to make it work in emulators.

That said, there's sometimes the tendency (pointing into void and not at any patchmaker in particular) to make HD-fixes and WHDLoad installs of OCS games that for some reason hiccup on OCS machines. And/or OCS configs. Can you try an A1200 Quickstart config?

Galahad never released ChaseHQ as a stand-alone disk version, he made the 680x0/hd fix. Thus you can't expect the disk image to work (he modified some interrupt routines and some other things) as it was never meant for that. The image works fine when used with the patch, why you want to use it in any other way is beyond me tbh.

I was just doing it out of interest, to see if it could be used both as a floppy and as an HD game. But if he only brought it out in HD form then I guess that explains it.

Stingray is 100% correct.

At the time I released my AGA fixes, in the file_id.diz info files, it was quite apparent what they would or would not work with.

My early stuff was AGA disk fixes, that sometimes would still work on OCS/ECS, but on some versions I did enhancements like ram load of the entire game for quicker ingame loading.

The other fixes were .lzx files with EVERYTHING you needed to run the game off hard drive.

So long as you had enough memory and reqtools.library, most of my AGA HD fixes should work with no issues on AGA Amigas.

Just because a filename in an archive is the same size as an ADF file, doesn't always equate it can still be used as an ADF, as sometimes I imaged the disk and modified it, and then used an external AmigaDOS loader to allocate memory, load the modified ADF into ram and then run. In fact I'm pretty sure I deliberately modified the image so that it couldn't be used as an ADF to precisely stop what it is you're attempting to do.

Some of my fixes did all the fix work externally of the ADF file, so with the loader code, nothing is fixed and its all a big waste of time.

Thanks for explaining things, Galahad.

Though come to think of it, I'm left wondering why there is an install patch over at Dr Zarkov's Domain - using your executable - that doesn't work with any disk image I've tried, yet the loader was previously only made available bundled with the game itself in a ready-to-run package?

If I remember correctly, Dr.Zarkov used WHDLoad to make unofficial slaves for my cracks, and patched my boot code to remove references to resetting the VBR.

Not all of my HD AGA fixes quit back to AmigaDOS.

From memory, Elite v2.0, Supremacy, Infestation, Ikari Warriors, maybe even Outrun, all quit back to AmigaDOS much like WHDLoad does, the rest of the HD installs I did, did not.

And the adf file which Mai gave you, is utterly useless without the other files in archive, namely the booter to actually load the game.

Alas I don't have it anymore, although curiously I do still have the source to the AGA Fix.

Is "Chase_HQ.exe" not the booter then? That's included in the archive.
