By the way, when do you use a barrel roll? Is there any use for it?

Yes, sorry, that's what I wanted to ask. Is there a difference between "barrel shift" and "barrel rotation" for the Amiga blitter? (I'm asking because in assembler, a shift is different to a rotation) And if yes, is there any use for a blitter rotation setup? (instead of just using shift)

There's just rotation. You'll need to have the extra word of padding after each bitplane line for bob sources and masks.
