question about the game beneath a steel sky, german version:
what is the best amiga version available including all speech, sounds and music?
which version should i download from eabsearch? there are hundreds of hits...

CD32 version, which includes speech. I think even ingame music is exclusive to the CD32 version.

can i install/play cd32 version without cd32 config? i never got my xbox360 controller to work for playing cd32 games.

Has no cd audio, just the speech is exclusive to the CD32 version.

Not cd audio. But the disk versions dont play music in the youtube videos I found,. The cd32 version does though.
But Im not sure. Had it just been turned off, or is it just played when sufficient RAM is available?

The CD32-version has speech and a lot more music. The floppy version has music but just a fraction of what was in the DOS release. A real shame!
You can run the CD32 version using whdload, and it works well, but it does not support saving. Instead it uses a code-system. It's a real shame!
I think neither is a great way to experience the game, but personally I think the floppy version is superior simply because it allows saving.

The best way to play BASS on the Amiga is with ScummVM. :P

I've just started on the floppy version myself (on a real Amiga). I don't actually like voiceovers in adventure games, so don't mind not having that but extra music would indeed be nice. Oh well. This game is all about gfx/writing for me so I can live with it though.

Yeah, voice is not really needed, but the music in BASS is so good! I really do miss it when I play the amiga-version. I wonder if it would be possible to patch it in somehow. The music that is in the CD32 release is very good and sounds GREAT! As far as I can tell it's all mods:

maybe one of the crackers here might be able to brew an ultimate version of bass including everything (music and speech from cd32 version PLUS saving-ability from floppy-version). this would be great!!!

another fantastic game where they ruin it adding voices was simon the sorcerer

Agree, but the voice work in Simon is TERRIBLE! I think the voices in BASS are overall quite good, very good at times. I don't think losing the voices detracts from the game but I also don't think adding them ruins anything. In Simon the Sorcerers case adding voices absolutely DEMOLISHES that game. It goes from being a fantastic fantasy adventure to an absolute shitfest!

I played simon on my amiga as a kid and loved it. It wasn't until many years later that I tried it on PC and was stunned. It's even worse then Kings Quest 5. Way worse! It's in a league of it's own.

What!? Chris Barrie did some great voice work on Simon, really adds to the game, you are the first couple of people i’ve heard don’t like it.

Chris Barrie is the only person who does a good job in that game.

I’m with Amigajay on this. The voice work in Simon is excellent. The wizards, the shopkeeper(s), the swampling, the owl, the Druid, the woodworm, the sousaphone player, the goblins, etc. All great!

The only thing I’ll fault them on is that the audio mixing is a bit off and some characters get drowned out by the (also excellent) music.
