A600 2mb ram vs A1200 ACA1232 music player question
Hi. I have two Amigas with 4gb CF HDDS. One is the A1200 which I always post about on these forums.
Specs A1200 3.1, ACA 1232 128mb, indi MK2 and an A600. 1mb standard with 1mb expansion. I'm playing a 100 collection mod pack on eagle player on both systems but the A600 cant handle it. Channels sometimes seem out of sync and its slower as well. Does anyone know why this would be happening? Alot of these mods are very high quality and have lots of sampled speech etc. |

What kind of mods and size and amount of channels? How does HippoPlayer play?

There must be some extra options enabled. An Amiga will NEVER struggle to play a mod, actually the replayer uses very little CPU power.

what daxb said.. there's most likely mods in there with more than 4 channels, thus requiring cpu mixing..

The mod collection can be found here, mid right, download section:
http://modp3.mikendezign.com/ I havent heard of Hippoplayer but ill give it a go. Is it the case that the A600s weaker cpu could have trouble playing more complicated mods? Cheers |

Definitely impossible. But keep in mind some MODs might need more memory than 1MB.

Later versions of EaglePlayer has options which require more horsepower than the bare 7MHz 68k can handle and need to be disabled. i.e. 14-bit note player, the visualisers etc.
Try an different program to for playback. A slim modplayer. |

Any recommendations for slimmer mod players?
Also. I have a 1mb expansion in my A600 so it totals 2mb. Would this make a difference or would it make no difference as its not chip ram. Cheers Tony |

Some mod players have players which locate the samples in fast mem, which requires a lot more CPU power. You don't need this since you only have chipmem anyway.
I have used HippoPlayer on my plain A600 and never had an issue with it. |

Yeah it seems you might be using a 14 bit replayer or something. Use only the true hardware player.

I tried to install hippo player but its complaining about not having the right library or something. I imagine its going to need plugins as well to play the various mods. Can someone out there pls give me a link to the other files needed (and where I should put them).
Thanks Tony |

Is there a player you can recommend Fitzsteve that has everything included and runs straight out of the box so to speak?

Classic Workbench 68k & GAAE already has Hippo player installed so you could try using Classic Workbench since evrything is setup, pre configured and ready to go.

Off the top of my head, hippo player needs req.library and that's about it. No point in installing an entire WB distro if you only need that one lib. :-D

Jope: I got req.library (I think) from aminet. Out of the 27 files it extracted it had one drawer called libs with req.library in it. I transferred this file to libs in Workbench.
When starting Hippoplayer I get the following guru like message: HIP rozen no Reqtools.library V38+! Not sure what this means. I'm guessing the file didn't work or i'm still missing something? Thanks Tony |

Try the attached (unzip and transfer to your Amiga) sys:libs/
It came from Classic Workbench so should be compatible. |

req.library is not equal reqtools.library what is a must have library everybody will need sooner or later.
The Aminet HippoPlayer Archive has everything you need, including a kick1.3 reqtools.library version. Read install.readme. For kick3.1 you will use V39.3. More info in the HiP.guide. |

On another note: I installed delitracker II successfully. I tried one of the 100 hq mods and it says out of memory. Typical game mods like Project X are fine. I'm starting to think some of these mods require an expanded amiga.
