No such thing.

There is only a 1Mbyte A500+ trapdoor expansion (bringing the total to 2Mbyte Chip RAM)

There is NO SUCH THING!

There are really only 512Kbyte (A500) and 1Mbyte (A500+) trap door expansions.

To be any larger they would have to clip to the CPU [Edit:] Or the Gary chip

That'll probably be half or a full meg the one you've bought.

Power computing did one's that went upto 4m on the 500/+ although there was a daughter board supplied iirc for Gary.

Out of interest have you checked the onboard battery on the 500+ (you'll need to take it apart as it's located on the actual motherboard)

They are well over due to be replaced (better removed completely imo) (1992 - service life of 6 years) and you don't want it leaking

Just something to bear in mind if you have a 500+.

I've discovered that there are some larger A500 Trapdoor RAM expansions but all of course have to clip to the Gary. Elbox also does one.

@Keropi
There were lots of things that shipped with 256kbyte 30-pin SIMMs (never upgraded an Atari STe have you!) including Marpet's A600 trapdoor expansion.

@Paul_S
I'd like to get a look at the PowerC thing with a clip to the Gary. Unfortunately there are no good pics of it on the net.

@Paul_S

You are right, there seems to be a lot more of these things that I first thought and they mainly clip to the Gary as you say.

The Gayle is not really comparable with the trusty old Gary address decoder.
Gayle and the Fat Gary from A4000 are containing the IDE controller btw.

Here ist the Gary documentation from Dave Haynie's archive:
http://www.thule.no/haynie/systems/a.../docs/gary.txt

Somewhere i got the Gayle documentation too ...

btw ... every trapdoor memory expansion with more than 1MB must connect to the Gary socket (but never to the CPU) to use the full available address space.

But u can use only about 1.8MB (otherwise u would trash the chipset registers! )

Ciao, Rick ...
