Thanks for the kind words guys, I appreciate it

I might try to find a few hours this weekend to fix the most severe issues (eg lack of keyboard support, 68000 slowdown) but I probably won't have time to finish it for a long time.

I think the biggest skill to master with the hangar screen is control of momentum. Once you've got hang of that you'll be able to fly out of the hangar at almost full speed, but the easiest way to get out (IMO) is this.

- Immediately turn 180 degrees to the right, apply enough thrust until you're very slowly moving right.
- As you're moving right, turn 180 degrees to the left, and wait until you're in the square. When you're in the square very gently apply thrust until you're practically stopped (actually stopping is next to impossible but you can get very close to it).
- Line up with the hangar doors, gradually apply thrust and lift, hit the door button and as soon as it's open, race out.

That's exactly the issue for me

Muchos gracias for the detailed tip / instructions. Will try tonight

I wasn't criticizing you! I think this is a common problem on this game (especially when you don't have a game manual *ahem* ). I also struggled first time I played it again after that many years.
I have been able to successfully exit the hangar many times now and actually even got to a "congratulations" screen thingie after destroying three silos.

The way I do it is almost like earok's: immediately turn 180, apply thrust to make it go the opposite way, then when near the square, try to get the speed to 0/0 then turn towards the door, open it and then go full speed/press and hold fire button. You fly off the screen like a master.

Here's a quick video I just made of me going at it really badly, I missed the first chance to reduce speed but made it out nonetheless. Gotta pay attention to the numbers!

Raid over Moscow!

I had been living in a former socialistic block in 80s. I remember when this game was released, our local communists (that mostly never heard about computers and computer games) were so angry, that this game deserved its own article in the main state newspaper It stated about the "poor stupid programme for advanced electronic calculators, a capitalist entertainment, in which the main character with a panzerfaust must break all the windows of Kremlin". Of course we all kids started to want that calculator and the programme since, no matter how bad it is.

Oh, those memories...

Awesome video. Awesome music.

Was there ever official talk in magazines when this game was launched back in the day about how hard getting out of the hangar was?

Raid Over Moscow was quite controversial back in the day, especially here in Finland, where it actually caused a political crisis. Soviet Union didn't like the game, and tried to get it banned in Finland. But this failed, and instead the game became a best seller here, with everyone wanting a copy.

This "panic in Finland" is even mentioned in the game's Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raid_over_Moscow

And here is a video of an old Finnish news programme called "A-Studio", that tells about the game, and how the most popular Finnish computer magazine Mikro Bitti has just given the game high scores in a review, followed by footage of kids playing the game in a computer store:

Gaming was a very serious business back then, with a whole nation getting fired up because of some C64 game.

But it was also a good game without any doubt, nice to see an Amiga conversion on the works.

That's indeed something nice intead of improving crappy ST to Amiga ports. Looking forward to see this C64 classic on the Amiga.
You shouldn't write this, seriously. A lot of passion and work was done here in porting ST games, and the result is really great. Just played "Where time stood still" yesterday on Amiga for the first time, with a big smile on my face. Look a bit the answer of Galahad (the dark blue smiley), i think there is no need to add any comment about this ok ?

I don't think that's what he wrote. You know all those old shitty ST ports which people are improving?

Exactly. It really doesn't make sense to waste time improving/hacking crappy ST ports like Wonder Boy in Monster Land. Slightly better looking graphics doesn't improve the awful game play. THIS here is awesome though. Hopefully we see a complete version some day.

I don't see shitty ports from the ST in the recent vague. It's great to run these games on amiga. Come on guys, the axe of war between st/amiga is burried since a long time, be mature please, the more acceptable ports we have the more it's cool. If a dedicated Amiga port of something is released it is nice, but don't spit on the soup ! Otherwise you could be 80 yo soon with nothing to drink since decades...

You got it all wrong. It now OT btw, but check the link below. Earok didn't ported this. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Dragon Spirit too) was officially ported from the crappy ST version to the Amiga back in the day. He slighty changed some things which doesn't make the game any better on the Amiga. He did a great job on Giana Sisters SE though which made sense, because the original was already a good Amiga game.

And now this silly discussion should end.

It doesn't matter if you think it's 'wasting time' as its Earoks time and not yours! It he likes a certain game enough to alter (changing viewpoint and adding extra button does alter gameplay btw) then fair play to him, I know for a fact if he knew the time it took on Giana before hand he wouldn't have done it.
So I agree with the above, people shouldn't moan if someone is working on a 'shitty ST port' or not, it's their time and their preference to do so!

Raid over Moscow was a brilliant game! I used to have this on Enterprise 128, of all computers...

would be nice if you could play it as the Soviets as "Raid over Washington" as well!

Yeah being able to choose the other faction would be a welcome addition! (with more minigames available in such case, like the launching of the actual missile, and defense ones like on Beachhead to repel the US forces)

I absolutely loved all games by the Carver brothers (RIP Bruce ). Starting with all the "war" games like Beach Head 1 and 2, Raid over Moscow and then the sports ones with 10th Frame Bowling and all Leaderboard games on c64 and amiga. I think those are all in my top 20 games of all time... great stuff indeed. Very nice to see Raid being done on the amiga, even in this "preview" form
