Amiga 2000 questions
Today I got an Amiga 2000 without keyboard, but it hasn't been used for a few years.
First I've visually checked it, all seems fine - even the battery. I tried to switch it on, and the power came on but all I've got is light grey screen. It starts to boot normaly with dark grey but then it stops on light grey screen with no floppy activity. I tried with and without scsi and memory cards, all the same. So I need some help First of all can A2000 be booted without keyboard ? Does anyone know what might be the problem - could it be floppy or smoething else? |

have limited control. But this shouldn't stop the 2000 from booting. What do you mean by a grey screen ?....Is it completely blank with no writing ? First of all i would make sure that all the chips are pushed down on the board, especially the kickstart roms. |

It's a Kick 1.3 machine and when i turn the power on the screen goes from dark grey to light grey with no writing and hangs there.
I'll try to push the chips, I hope it will work. |

I had a similar problem with a A2000 I got. It has no keyboard but that will not effect bootup in anyway, you just won't be able to type anything (obviously!)
Light grey hanging would suggest a "CIA (U8/U301) problem" (link) This is exactly what happened wth my mine. I ended up replacing the two 8520R3a-1 2686 chips and the big 8644 8 TS68000CP8 chip with ones from an old A500 and the A2000 started working perfectly, but it depends on what revision your A2000 is, some have different layouts and chips. I think that this may be a common problem with old A2000s. |

It works!!!!
I've just pushed the chips and everything works. Now I have another question, regarding keyboard. I presume that A500 keyboard can be connected to A2000 - with soldering wires from A500 keyboard to 5 pin DIN connector? Becouse its hard to find a keyboard fo A2000, and I have one A500 keyboard at home. |

Google on A2000 PC keyboard hack there was a hack to connect a PC-AT (DIN connector, not PS/2) to an A2000 many years ago. I'm sure I saw a large repository with a lot of miggy 'hardhacks' a couple years ago somewhere on the net, and it was there.
