Hmm, I must investigate this...

Edit: Was it the SPEEDLINK SL-6603 Amiga Classix Diamond Edition + Competition Pro USB Joystick here?

Customer reviews are favourable, e.g. "The controls are good and responsive", "The directional movement is very responsive" and "The main two buttons are also very responsive".

But if it was, then that's the same one I bought (and from the same place) and mine does have the lag.

If the lag is gone from the one they're selling now, then it must be the long-awaited 3rd Edition!
Yes this is it !
But i can play without any probs !
I don't want to go looking for faults, but to me its exactly what i want !

Press the buttons/move the stick as fast as you can. The buttons press should give you a permanent red flashing. With the CP USB you notice some fluctuations. Just like in the stick movements with the cross. I've compared this with my Sega Saturn USB pad, no lags.
To be fair, I did not find this test conclusive until I compared its performance with that of a cheap PS2-type USB joypad. The latter was lightning-fast and put the Competion Pro to shame.

But, then again, I am hardly an experienced gamer...

If you're really sure after further testing, then I shall order another one and find out how they fixed it.

It's a small issue, yes. But it e.g. "can" happen while you jump in game...and nothing happens due to a too fast stick movement in some hectic moments. This is indeed annoying. I want a 100% reliable Stick.

@Retro,

I don't doubt what you're saying for a moment. I like the CPro stick and I would like to find a fix for the lag, but, unfortunately, I have not been able to find time to work on this much.

If I can find out for sure that Speedlink have now fixed the problem, then it will be a much simpler matter to find out how they did it than to look for suitable donor parts from a completely dissimilar controller to achieve the same result.

They didn't fix it. The online shops still sell the 2nd edition leftovers.

Well, obviously I shan't buy another one if they haven't fixed it.

I am willing to lend one of my USB joypads to Viceroy if that will help find out for sure.

Are you positive this has'nt got anything to do with your PC performance ?
At the end of the day this is an emulator !
All emulators are running windows and the emulator !
In other words, two operating systems !

It's a (small) lag in the Competition Pro. Try it with another controller and you'll notice. Has nothing to do with the PC or WinUAE.

@Viceroy,

The test in Windows' Game Controller Preferences is independent of emulators or AmigaOS, and is quite conclusive if you compare the CPro joystick with a more responsive controller.

I have to say that if the lag hasn't been fixed, I wonder what Play.com's customers were reviewing?

Ill have to find out where it is ?
Cos Windows 7 does not seem to have Game Controller option in control panel!

@Viceroy,

When you find it, could you try the Windows' Game Controller Preferences test on your Competition Pro and the joypad? How do they compare? Is there any discernable difference in response times?

Thanks.
