9 Lives - smooth scrolling

Would it be possible, with all the re-engineering work going on lately, to implement smooth scrolling in 9 Lives?
That would be an awesome end to a great game!

Great game but the low fps kill it.

First time i've seen the game.... likely the last, its awful!

And from what I can gather all the cracked versions are bollocksed, so it needs redoing, but alas I cannot find an IPF

Hi Phill, Look for
9Lives_2976.zip
on EAB FTP.

But what's wrong in
9 Lives (1990)(ARC)[cr Angels - Defjam][f Angels - Defjam][t +4 Angels - Defjam]
? (apart the stupid depacker audio filter twist..)

Well, I too was the first time I saw this game and I can not understand what's good in it

It took NOMAD three attempts by all accounts to get it right, (another Robocop 2), and I don't think theres much faith in it.

Also thought NOMAD quit farting about with the filter in his Scoopex days, quite why he would do that whilst its playing music I can't quite fathom!

Thanks for the headsup on the IPF Will take a look at it now.

Thanks for this.

Technically not the best game, but me for, it's just one of those games that sticks in your mind.
I think the music is really good, and I like the atmosphere of the graphics.
Really good game maps over at HOL, too.

I actually played this on the ST first, but the poor scrolling has come over to the Amiga version sadly.

I thought the palette was quite dull for the type of game.

If I found actual Atari ST code within the game I wouldn't be surprised.

The disk system is ST based..... 16 colour drabness.

Its a rough game. You have to go all over the multiscrolling levels finding cats to rescue which is a huge pain in the behind if you forget one, the unique but horrid jumping and climbing mechanic, the fact that you can't really dodge all the many enemies which you can only temporarily stun and have to run from health pickup to health pickup... ugh. Hard to love.

I still do love it. Maybe because I got it really early on. It was reviewed in one of the first Amiga magazines I got and at that point all games were new and magical to me. And that "bye bye" sign as he plummets to his death is just glorious, dark humor is a powerful thing.

The ST music is a really good chip tune, actually.

On the ST, you had to "pre-shift" the sprite data by each pixel, in memory, which was a common trick to get round the 8 bit boundary, for horizontal scrolling.
However, I am guessing the Amiga version does not do this - just loads the map in to RAM, and moves the screen address round.
This is why I thought it may be possible to just smooth the scrolling out on the Amiga, instead of the "flip screen".

From what I know, 9 Lives is a crap game with a great tune, especially on ST (which was the first version I played).
