The New Zealand Story (Demo) WHDload Slave

greetings all,

I have created a WHDload slave for the 1 level demo of New Zealand Story from Amiga Format : http://amr.abime.net/issue_157_coverdisks

this includes the following ;

- Full loading of the game from RAM/HD
- Possible quit with QUITKEY at any time (68000/NOVBRMOVE compatible)
- Blitter waits inserted to avoid GFX problems
- Loop which locks the game where no sound is enabled (emulation)
is removed.

- Trainers on CUSTOM1 can be combined for multiple trainers:
- CUSTOM1=1 - Infinite Lives
- CUSTOM1=2 - Infinite Oxygen

- CUSTOM2=1 enables two button support
- This operates exactly like the arcade version;
- Jump is now activated by the second button and not "up".
- Upwards movement of a balloon or rider is activated by the
second button.
- After collecting the Joystick item, or riding the spaceship,
the joystick up control is used.

- BUTTONWAIT tooltype will pause the title-screen

I actually created this whilst working on the NZS slave v2.0 update, but i have only just managed to fix the remaining bug (thanks to my work elsewhere).

Why install it? becuase this 1 level is not in the original game, and it was this demo that made me want an Amiga all of my own

I hope this is 100% working, but i would appreciated feedback for reassurance Installed version in The Zone

I'll test that out for ya, that demo, the kiwi has a better sound when he gets killed

Edit

Ok I tried it out on my default Classic Workbench UAE 4000 Power Setup, music played very slow until I adjusted a few things.

Turn off JIT (common problem with WHDLoad games)
Changed CPU Emulation Speed to adjustable and moved it up one notch.

With these settings it ran perfectly, nice work

thanks Kitty for the feedback.

Seems to be a bit funny with UAE re: speed, as you say. Apparently, it was running slow on an 030 setup, but having tested on my own genuine 030, it's fine there!

the nature of NZS with regards to timing is a curious one, even on the full game. It is exactly this reason, that where the CPU speeds / timings have been 'butched' as to why the game cannot be run on PSPUAE at all. (game runs half speed to the sound, or vice-versa)

i am going to continue to look into this one however, as apparently it is not matching up with the full-game slave. (which doesnt make sense, since the patches are near-identical!)

ok just fired it up again today with a new install of cwb uae (had a hard drive crash and lost everything) and the gameplay seems to run at a decent speed but I cant get the sound to run at the correct speed, no matter what I try

As you see above I must of had it running correctly in the past, or maybe I didnt notice the speed of the music before?

This time I compaired it with the full game and the music is so much slower on this demo version.
Anyone got any ideas how this can be fixed?

there are some odd quirks with the wrong UAE settings (true of both the original game and the demo) - maybe try some cycle exact settings or the like.

This demo is the only version I found of this game that plays the music correctly. I wonder if it is possible to patch the game with this music.
