Great Mystery - A1200 Rom Wires?
I got hold of another A1200 (MB Rev-1D4) - it certainly has a sun tan - Internally it is in very good condition and although the security seal was broken it doesn't look as though it has been tampered with in any way but I am a bit suspicious about whether the floppy drive is original... have a look...
It is a Mitsumi drive - model D357T2 - it looks like it has it's own exhaust pipe. Were these standard in A1200'S? Also check out these Rom chips... they look to be sitting on two ROM risers and have little wires soldered onto them... WTF?? I will post some more pictures when I give it a good clean and test... I have the same in my A1200 It is an original hack because of the earliest ROMs, but I really dont know the exact purpose. As you can see, there is the datecode 9311, which means your ROMs are from the half of March 1993 (I have the same datestamp). Later (I dont know how much later) ROMs are wires - free (I hope virus - free as well ).

It is most likely they have the wrong pinout. A mod similar to this is needed when using some EPROMs

My A1200 was originally equipped with panasonic JU-253-043P, though. It had the similar cylinder, but covered with the drive case. I replaced it with Mitsumi though, because the Panasonic drive was a crap.

Here are some pictures of the A1200 - it has got a bit of a sun Tan - it looks a bit like the David Dickinson of the Amiga World...
The Motherboard is in perfect condition and I have installed a 4GB IBM IDE drive - it's all working fine - It has had a thorough clean and been on test all day. Now I have a choice - I might exchange it for an A600 - (A600 now not required but will still trade for an Amiga Specific Monitor) or take an offer or I might ebay it... any interest please PM me... obviously I will be looking for "The Real Deal" Last edited by Peter; 28 February 2009 at 21:06. |

Just thought I would bump this thread back up to generate a bit of interest - if no one is interested I will list this on Ebay early next week... (UK only - Sorry)
Will now exchange for an Amiga specific monitor or a cash offer... PM to discuss... |

sorry for reply to this old thread, but I have the same fix on my board, and I want to know if it's a fix only for the roms or it's for the board also, because I want to upgrade it to 3.1

Mitsumi drive with built in card reader. Now I use a motorize floppy drive,so my A1200 must be powered up in-order to eject the floppy disk. Last edited by delshay; 12 August 2012 at 15:12. |

You will need to know how to modify the floppy drive part in-order for it to work with amiga. Never tested the card reader as I did not have a Subway, but I don't see any reason why it should not work.
Look for drive(s) that have a standard floppy drive interface with card reader. Happy modding. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_...0CARD%20READER Last edited by delshay; 12 August 2012 at 20:37. |

NOTE: some floppy drive do have mounting assembly for the second motor to eject the the floppy disk by electronics, but is very very rare a motor is used. most drive have a mechanical eject button put in place, but a simple check inside the floppy drive you may see some drive already has mounting assembly for the 2nd motor.
Some of you may have this type of floppy drive but don't even know it. Eject motor http://www.solarbotics.net/bftgu/tut...mron_hack.html Last edited by delshay; 12 August 2012 at 20:20. |
