Im going to pass on this. Bought the previous Alien Breed title on XBL. Singleplayer was so so, rotating the camera is a bit iffy. Multiplayer... hmmm multiplayer would be good... if there was anyone online at the time playing it!

If you've got Unreal Tournament, give Alien Swarm a bash at least its free! And I second what people were saying about Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds survivor - they were pretty fun too.

will it be a bloody DL only game!?

I would rather pay £45 for a hardcopy than anything more than £10 for a digital only copy..

I really REALLY dont agree with this back door errosion of my statutory rights to what I own and how I own somthing.

what really pisses me off now is that Bipps has a PS3, as do I, and damn it!!! it would be awesome to get some co-op going!

I have to admit, 2.5$ Milllion in game development, thats farcical..... its using a modified unreal 3 engine... all its assets are in the graphics and sounds.... $2.5 million wtf?!

I have seen a lot more come from so much less.... infact I have seen revolutionary hyper-realism engines come from next to nothing!

If they had any ounce of decency they'd throw in 1 or 2 of the Amiga originals in emulated with a decent scaler as unlockables upon finishing the new version so all the younger gen can see where it all started ..... Of course ..... This will not happen

But then they'd have to field all those threatening 'cease and desist' copyright claims regarding the Kickstart roms.

PLAN B: Re-write them like the 'Minis' Pinball Dreams/Fantasies

Moonstone HD would be cool too

I have to be fair, I quite like this new AlienBreed.
I have been playing the demo, and may buy it later, well the double pack, so I can pass the other one onto my brother for multiplayer.

I bought this on relase on live. Its quite a polished title for an xbox arcade game... although I still prefer the originals.

1) Alien Breed 2: Assault, second part of the "reboot trilogy", should be out this month for XBLA and PC:
http://gamescom.gamespot.com/story/6...reed-2-assault

2) I played Evolution quite a bit and have finished 2 levels (out of 4) (+ the prologue level). So here is my opinion.

First level was relatively disappointing for me.
The game felt more like a survival horror with "fed ex" quests rather than reviving the AB spirit.

However the second level, although it started in a similar fashion, was far more entertaining. It still remains more on the survival horror side rather than on the arcade side. But there were some well placed intense fights, alternating with phases focusing on exploration occasionally interrupted by alien attacks.

I suppose the game continues on this trend in the next levels so I guess I can recommend the game as one to get to have a pretty enjoyable experience (you will need something like 1 hour of play to go through level 1 though).

I am still convinced that Shadowgrounds and Shadowground Survivor do a better job as an Alien Breed tribute. Not only on the arcade-y side but even on the "frightening" side, especially during some encounters with the Scytheworms (the enemies who are cloaked most of the time).
Still, you should have some good entertainment with AB Impact.

Edit: Don't think I mentioned it before, but there is a "mod" for Shadowgrounds that tries to make it looks more like it was an Alien Breed game:
http://frozenbyte.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=160

Check the screenshots to see the differences. Nothing major but still some nice touches (especially with the Special Edition).

About six months after the new Alien Breed, Valve released a new Alien Swarm game on Steam, for free. Team 17 can't get a break!

I've played the first level, and it seems enjoyable enough. Old skool gameplay with new age graphics.

Just to be sure, you did not turn "alternate mouse aim" (or something like that. In Options/controls) on, did you?

Or can you still move the cursor but no longer see the crosshair?

Nope, its a bug, loads of people have complained on the steam forums but no one has an answer. The cursor is broke in the menu too.

Oh well, I hope for you an update quickly fixes it for you and these other people.

Speaking so much about Shadowgrounds lead me to play it again a bit.
One thing I had never tried is the Keyboard-only aiming introduced in 1.04 and described in the readme (the commands are console commands, but I guess you could bind the commands to a single button since there are some "run_script_X" among the keybinds, although I have never tried such a thing).

Besides the Alien Breed III mod, people who want to get an old-school Alien Breed feel should try it since with this control scheme you no longer control where the aiming cursor will be, as the directional keys rotate Tyler.

Oh well, enough thread hi-jacking for now

I'm not fussy with this pay per episode malarky a lot of the software houses are coming out with now. As Zetr0 said i'd rather pay my money and have a hard copy of it.
