Floppy drive noises

well i did search but found nothing useful.

just wondering why certain games/demos cause my floppy drive to grind like hell.

is my drive supposed to sound like an explosion is imminent when i play Lemmings (Skidrow crack) and what causes it? is it just bad programming?

It sounds like the drive is trying to read from multiple different points on the disk instead of just starting at the beginning and reading a continual data stream. (which i guess is down to the programmers, I assume theres a good reason for doing this?)

Its just the way they used to do things.

Best if someone with more knowledge takes this one.
From what I understand, its due to the custom boot loaders, disk protection routines etc etc.
Never checked, as it never bothered me, the louder the better nostalgic experience, .
