Looking for Wrecked

GIMME AMIGA ADF ROMZ NOW!

No, really... I remembered a game I saw mentioned at the pages of The One. It was a platformer, done by some kind of anti-drugs society. But... in the game the 'power ups' were different kind of drugs! So if you took LSD you started to see things, or amphetamines gave you speed, shit like that. Not very anti-drugs, lemme tell you

I think the name of the game was called Wrecked (I can check this when I get home). It was sort of PD, you paid little cash to this society and they gave you the game.

Did anybody ever play it? How about an upload to the 'zone?

Ok, I have found more info about this game. I'll quote what was wrote on The One about it:

Quote:
Healthwise, a Liverpool-based drug education body, picked up a little more publicity than it bargained for with the release of its new Amiga game, Wrecked, a 'psychedelic adventure' designed to educate its users about the dangers of drug abuse.

Having originally made the news in its local paper, the Liverpool Echo, the story was picked up by Granada TV, then Radio One's Newsbeat programme and eventually made it all the way to the Sunday People.

The trouble is that most of the reporters involved missed the point of the whole exercise, and by the time the bandwagon had well and truly begun to roll, a number of consumer watchdogs and public figures (including two MPs, Timothy Rathbone and Olga Maitland) were up in arms, having firmly grasped the wrong end of teh stick by assuming that this game in fact promoted the culture of illicit drug taking.

"This was all just knee-jerk moral panic", says Healthwise spokesman James Kay. "Neither Timothy Rathbone nor Lady Olga Maitland have actually seen any part of the game - nor have they taken the trouble to contact us and find out anything about how the game works."

"Wrecked is ne wand controversial because it understands that young people take drugs because they enjoy them. This might be difficult for the rest of us to accept, but it's no good hiding your head in teh sand and hoping that the problem will go away."

A platform game, Wrecked is designed to be both fun to play and a serious way of educating people about the uses and misuses of drugs. The game's central character, Jo, moves through the game scoring both points and drugs along the way. Each drug found has a different effect - amphetamines and cocaine work as 'speed-up' icons, while LSD allows Jo to see things which were otherwise invisible. The point of the game is that it points out that drugs have bad effects as well as good. "We don't care too much if the game doesn't appeal to MPs", says Kay, "it wasn't written for them".

Healthwise is currently looking to set up national distribution for its game, but in the meantime Wrecked is available direct from the body itself - phone (051) 709 5505.

And remember... winners don't do drugs!
SOMEBODY must have got this game, don't you think? How about ringing up Healthwise?

Wow - how'd I miss that one? I really must have this game, as well. Maybe we'll luck out and Cody has a copy, but looking through his stuff, I don't see an indication of it.

Morph - you seen this one in any of your travels?

Wrecked

I've had this one on my requests list for some time, but thanks for all that info akira. I actually live in liverpool and I don't remember this game around back in the amiga 500 days.

Someone must have it though. I'll ask some local amiga buffs if they remember it.

How long ago did it get released?

Well, I took that from The One, January 1994 issue, so it must have been released during late november/early december 1994 approximately. Perhaps the guys who published it have a copy or two around? It sure must be a funny game

I was going to ask about this title, so it's a good time to resurrect this thread.

Since it is still MIA I am guessing it probably was not released.

Anyone??

It was also supposed to be on the PC as well and I had a demo of it on floppy that came with PC Zone January 1995 Issue 22. I still have the magazine with a bit about it but I no longer have the floppy. I'd be willing to make a scan of the mag, but I haven't got a scanner at the moment and it'd have to wait a month or two if anyone would want to see the page? So has anyone actually rang Healthwise up then? I actually e-mailed them about this but just got ignored. I really want this game now.

Caught this rather late, but I'm the author the Wrecked on the Amiga. A PC conversion was done, but I always felt it was inferior I might possibly have an Original Amiga disk version (no idea where it could be after so much time and travels), but in all likelyhood is unreadable today. If anyone has a copy I'd love to have one! I once saw a zip of the PC version on the internet about 10 years ago, but can't find it anymore Thanks also to Paul, Colin and Timeshard for their input in making this game.

You might get something out of HealthWise, but we didn't part with James Kay in the best of terms, and he probably doesn't want reminding about us

We also followed it up with a sequel called 'Sloshed', all about alchol. This was PC only though, and not as good. Fred

I've got this game

I realize your post was four years ago but I've only recently become curious about this again. Colin

Hey! This is awesome.
I want this game! Did you ever upload it for real? Or anybody caught it if it was uploaded?

Well I sent Fred_O'Rourke a PM and also left a visitor message but I'm as of yet to receive a response so I guess this game will probably be lost in the mists of time forever unless he subscribed he won't receive an e-mail so I'm wondering if there's a way so that he'll get 1.

Thank you very much Rygar however, it's the shareware version but it's better than nothing and as it states in the description that there is no download of this game anywhere else at all not even the shareware version it just goes to show how rare this game really is especially when it's been posted on a website specialising in rare games. Thank you very much again.
