Really expected to like superfrog and was surprised when almost immediately I didn't.
Agree with all the criticisms. However completely understand why people did enjoy it.

Fire and Ice on the other hand, nice level design, nice controls, graphics and music, great game. Easily up there with the best of the western console platformers.

Fire & Ice seems to have the nicer music, graphics, more responsive controls and more enjoyable level design. So, yeah, Fire & Ice.

Probably going to play both again now...just to be sure.

Concerning Super Frog. I didn't notice the scrolling is 50img/s. Is main character also full frame rate animated ? Because it seems the rest is 25i/s.

From a gameplay perspective, I prefer Fire & Ice. Still very much enjoy Superfrog though.

Technically, I think both games have made interesting design choices or concessions. Superfrog has made fast scrolling and large screen area it's focus, hence the
Lack of parallax and other technical effects, but still boasts a nice colour count. Whilst F&I has settled for a smaller screen area, slower scrolling, freeing up resources for parallax and other cool effects, including the wonderful copper gradients.

I did notice Superfrog using some objects at half refresh rate, 25fps, whilst scrolling and main sprite updating at 50fps.

IIRC Superfrog uses a clever trick where it animates large amounts of spinning coins by updating 1/3 (or maybe half) of the coins each frame. It makes the animation looks much more alive and smoother than the straight-forward solution of just updating all of them every third frame (which wouldn't be possible anyway).

I would vote Fire & Ice, but games that don't run in 1 frame suck. There really is no good excuse for this game to not run at the full 50 fps.

Huge voting going on for this edition,...that's great! Gonna be a close battle this one :-)

Just a quick reminder to those who follow my gaming channel (and anyone who wants to come along), I'm doing a special livestream on my youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/ZEUSDAZ) this Sunday at 7pm (BST) to celebrate hitting 5000 subscribers, it will be a one on one chill out and chat session with me and the Snoopster (my labrador dog) talking all kinds of stuff from retro gaming to what Snoopy likes to do, basically everyone coming together for a good chat and Q&A.

So set your reminders and come join a fun community,...much better than the rubbish on tv on sunday nights!!!

Very tough choice for me as they are my 2 favourite platformers on the Amiga!

But if I had to choose one, it would have to be fire & ice for the music!

Both of them are crap, imagine how crap they are that fire and ice won a much better -technically- game. Superfrog is too shallow and cannot stand a chance against Super Mario or Sonic.

Well, the voting ended on June 15.
I played the two games on my Amiga decades ago. Superfrog had the better graphics but Fire&Ice had better gameplay & music.
That's my opinion.
Today I still have my very first Amiga 500 from 1987 but I didn't used it for years. But I know (and hope) that when I start it it will work as it used to do for more than 15 years.
Best Jump&Run game to me is 'The Great Giana Sisters'.
I finished all the levels long time ago.
Some pals and me practised a lot in this game and held often just a contest: Fastest passing of the first levels without concentration on collecting anything. Just running through...
This contest was impossible in Fire&Ice because you needed to collect the parts of the key to gain access to the next level.
Superfrog was too boring to us. It had nice graphics - especially the animations - but it was not that captivating.

Cheers,
Rick

Fire and Ice for the simple fact they haven't remade it for steam and totally f#@ked up any fond memories I might have had for the game.

You can play them now, compare and see why SNES sold 40 million 1991-96 and the Amiga was dead at 1994 combined with the pressure from the PC in whatever games the consoles couldn't do (strategy, rpg etc) that the PC did better.

Superfrog

Right now I'm playing Fire+Ice CD32 and does not play as great as Superfrog despite it have more detailed graphics, great backgrounds in AGA version. It just too slow to me.
