Hmmmmm, I had a few old games that didn't work on a Amiga 1200,

I managed to get around part of the problem by using Relokick or a degrader

I think I am right in saying that there ARE old games that won't work on a 1200.

As for the 600, to be honest I never had a problem with any games on my 600.

I am sure some of the more experienced guys on this forum will have many comments and suggestions

There isn't much difference between an A600 and an A1200 in terms of compatibility with old games. I haven't used an A600 but I had an A500+ basically a bigger A600. Both machines are incompatible with some really old games but degrading is an option for both of them. But an A1200 if you can, there are lovely AGA games that won't run anything but A1200 and A4000

I think there is a noticeable difference. A lot of games that I used to run flawlessly on the A600 dont work on the 1200. Even after degrading!

But the percentage is favourable.

If you just want classic gaming and dont care about AGA games, get an A500

There are always WhdLoad fixes for old games. But I would get an A500 and an A1200 to be sure. So I did.

my thoughts

From what I have seen the A600 runs the same prossesor as the A500+ and at the same speed(7.xxmhz)...so I would say that like others have said go with the A1200 and for classic games scarf up a cheap A500 from ebay or some where......

The 600's incompatibility lies in both the Kickstart and the enhanced chipset. Same with the A500 + (new KS and some ECS stuff in it too)

I'd go for trh 1200+500 way. you will need some FAST RAM to run WHDLoad with it, and an HD of course

Pressing both mouse buttons on boot brings up the Early Startup Control menu. From here, you can change boot options and display options, and get a diagnostic on any trapdoor slot boards plugged into the A1200.

The Display Options allow you to start your Amiga in alternative modes from PAL/'Best Available' (AGA), the default settings. Sometimes selecting Original or Enhanced helps old games to display properly. Just select the option you want, click Use, then Boot.

Yes, a bunch of old games will boot using that. The ones that don't work, youwill have to boot using a softkicker or something.

Yeah I have also been thinking of buying another A1200.

I am still kicking myself in the ass for selling my old one.

Anyone know of a good place in the US to buy a new 1200?
