Blizzard PPC memory
Hi all,
Could somebody tell me please what type/s of 72 PIN EDO SIMMS are compatible with the Blizzard PPC accelerator. I'd like to max it out with 2x128Mb. I've read that 60ns 72 PIN EDO is what I should be looking for but should it be Parity or non-Parity ? Is there EDO ram that is ECC and would this be a problem with the Blizzard? I've seen the following on ebay "128MB EDO non-Parity 72pin SIMM Memory RAM 72p 16x4 ICs 60ns" but I'm not sure if they will work? There are sellers on ebay listing edo memory that is said to be ok with the Blizzard PPC but they are twice the price. Thanks in advance. |

You dont need exact pair, you dont need ECC or parity. You need just two 128 SIMM 72 modules with the same speed (60ns is great);o) Of course getting pair of the same modules looks better, but does not run faster then two different 60ns modules. Maybe it would be helpful put that ebay link so we can tell you for sure.

Using just one 128mb simm here in the 1st slot, this way you can use faster crystals, all the way upto 72Mhz on the 68k.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I would think 128Mb would be ample for almost everything on the classic Amiga. Is there any point in me having 256Mb? I've seen that some people have socketed the crystal so it can be easily swapped. Would it need a cooling fan at that speed? I want to keep my A1200 and Blizzard PPC in its original Amiga case although I'll be using a 300watt power supply. I have a towered Amiga also with a 060, Zorro, Picasso IV etc so I'd like to keep my new Blizzard machine in it's stock form. I would like to eventualy get a Blizzard Vision for it too but I don't know if that will all be ok heat wise in a standard A1200 case.

I've noticed in the photo that the Hynix chips have HY51V65403HGT-5 printed on them. Does this mean that they are actually 50ns rather than 60ns stated in the description?
Would this still be ok if they are? I'm thinking of buying the FastATA 1200 MK-IV and on AmigaKits comments one guy says that he only got it to work with his drive in pio mode 5 when he fitted 50ns simms instead of 60ns so maybe this is not a bad thing? |

Thanks for the update, so they sent a 50ns Samsung Simm. I hadn't got around to buying my Simms yet. I prefer Samsung ram so I would've been happy with that but it's a shame they were too fat to fit the Blizzard.
